(WTVD) &#8212; The Cumberland County School Board has adopted a new policy on cellphones and personal devices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The policy, which goes into effect Wednesday, not only deals with cellphones but also other devices like smart watches and earbuds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">In elementary schools, students have to put their devices away throughout the entire school day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">For middle and high schools, students can use their devices when they&#8217;re changing classes and during lunch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Students can also use their phones on buses, but this policy gives bus drivers the authority to ask students to put away their phones for safety concerns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Phones could be confiscated after repeated incidents where students break the rules.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">There are some exceptions to this rule.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">A state law now requires school districts to develop policies on cellphones and other devices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC eTIW sUzSN \"><a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/abc11.com\/apps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Stay on top of breaking news stories with the ABC11 News App<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2025 WTVD-TV.
