ST. LOUIS \u2014 Federal prosecutors in St. Louis have accused an adult day care operator of submitting $1.47 million in false claims to Missouri\u2019s Medicaid program for services that were not provided.<\/p>\n

Tony King, 63, was indicted July 22 on five counts of health care fraud, the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri said Thursday. King surrendered Thursday and pleaded not guilty during an appearance in U.S. District Court in St. Louis.<\/p>\n

King operated Agape Love Adult Day Care LLC, which participated in Missouri\u2019s Adult Day Care Waiver program, according to the indictment. The program pays for care and supervision of older adults and people with disabilities as a community-based alternative to nursing facilities.<\/p>\n

Covered services can include planned group activities, meals and transportation for as many as 10 hours a day, five days a week.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors allege King billed Medicaid for 10 hours of daily care when Agape provided about half that amount. He also allegedly submitted claims for patients who were absent from the facility or hospitalized.<\/p>\n
