The Tigers announced that they have selected the contract of outfielder Max Clark<\/a>, as move that was reported<\/a> earlier this week. Fellow outfielder Matt Vierling<\/a> has been placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to July 30, with a left adductor strain. That opens an active roster spot for Clark. To open a 40-man spot, right-hander Andre Granillo<\/a> has been designated for assignment.<\/p>\n

Granillo, 26, has never pitched for the Tigers at the major league level. He was just claimed off waivers from the Nationals earlier this month. He was sent to Triple-A Toledo and has been there since.<\/p>\n

He will likely be back on waivers soon, though it\u2019s possible the Tigers could look to trade him before the August 3 deadline. His big league career is still quite limited, as he has thrown 30 1\/3 innings, allowing 6.23 earned runs per nine. His 10.6% walk rate is above average and his 14.9% strikeout rate is well worse than par.<\/p>\n

Teams are clearly interested in his larger body of work in the minors. From 2023 to 2025, he logged 175 1\/3 innings split between Double-A and Triple-A. His 12.7% walk rate in that time was quite high but he managed to strike out 31% of batters faced. He was traded to the Nats in February and had struggled this year, which led to him being on waivers and claimed by Detroit. In 35 1\/3 Triple-A innings in 2026, split between the affiliates of the Nats and Tigers, he has a 6.88 ERA, 19.9% strikeout rate and 10.6% walk rate.<\/p>\n

Given the declining numbers, it\u2019s possible he clears waivers this time. If that comes to pass, he would stick with the Tigers in a non-roster capacity. He hasn\u2019t yet been outrighted in his career and has less than three years of service time, so he would not have the right to elect free agency.<\/p>\n
