{"id":797712,"date":"2026-08-01T16:44:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-01T16:44:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/797712\/"},"modified":"2026-08-01T16:44:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-01T16:44:09","slug":"jimmy-haslam-keeps-door-open-on-deshaun-watson-staying-with-browns-beyond-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/797712\/","title":{"rendered":"Jimmy Haslam keeps door open on Deshaun Watson staying with Browns beyond 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last year, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam called the Deshaun Watson experiment \u201c<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/nfl\/profootballtalk\/rumor-mill\/news\/jimmy-haslam-deshaun-watson-trade-was-a-big-swing-and-miss-so-hold-us-accountable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">a big swing and miss<\/a>.\u201d Haslam isn\u2019t ruling out stepping back into the batter\u2019s box.<\/p>\n<p>Meeting with reporters on Friday, Haslam didn\u2019t close the door on Watson remaining with the Browns beyond 2026, the final year of his ill-advised five-year, $230 million, fully-guaranteed deal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think there are all kinds of possibilities out there \u2014 so, yes,\u201d Haslam said as to the possibility of Watson returning in 2027. \u201cBut here again, we\u2019ve got to get through practice. I think our quarterbacks will play in the exhibition games, that\u2019s obviously [coach] Todd [Monken\u2019s] call, and then Todd will figure out who\u2019s going to start.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If Watson wins the job and plays well, why wouldn\u2019t the Browns think about bringing him back? Winning cures all, from off-field problems to injury histories to so-so performances from a player who is now six years removed from playing at a high level.<\/p>\n<p>Still only 30, Watson has plenty of football left.
