LONDON, Ky. (WCHS) \u2014 An injured bald eagle was released back into the wild on Friday after spending a month recovering, troopers said.<\/p>\n
Troopers originally responded on June 30 to a report of a young bald eagle in distress and unable to fly, according to a press release from Kentucky State Police.<\/p>\n
Trooper Trey Lovins responded to the scene and located the eagle near Collins Lane in the city of Corbin, the release said. According to troopers, Lovins was able to capture the bald eagle, and Kentucky State Police reached out to the Lake Cumberland Wildlife Refuge, Liberty Nature Center in Somerset.<\/p>\n
Lovins then took the eagle to the nature center and released it into their care, troopers said.<\/p>\n
The bald eagle spent a month at the nature center recovering from its injuries, according to the release. It was then released back into the wild on Friday. To honor the role Lovins played in its rescue, troopers said they named the bald eagle Trooper.<\/p>\n
Troopers with the Kentucky State Police and employees with the Lake Cumberland Wildlife Refuge were present Friday for Trooper’s release, which took place on Laurel Lake near Holly Bay Beach, the release said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"LONDON, Ky.
