Martin Martinez-Ballinas, 38, a\u00a0Mexican national, was arrested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) July 22 after serving a federal prison sentence for illegally reentering the United States.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He now faces his third deportation, according to federal authorities.<\/p>\n
Federal officials said Martinez-Ballinas was convicted in a 2017 crash in Maryland that killed 21-year-old US Marine James Ray Walden III.<\/p>\n
After being deported in 2020, Martinez-Ballinas was caught attempting to illegally reenter the US in Texas the following year and was sentenced to 15 months in prison.\u00a0<\/p>\n
ICE removed him again in October 2022 but said he later reentered the country undetected, blaming the Biden administration\u2019s\u00a0border policies.<\/p>\n

Agents ultimately arrested him in Maryland in December 2023.<\/p>\n

Walden said Martinez-Ballinas was driving\u00a0without a license or insurance\u00a0when he crossed into his son\u2019s lane and struck his motorcycle head-on.<\/p>\n

He said he later learned Maryland officials knew Martinez-Ballinas was\u00a0in the country illegally\u00a0and that he had been arrested five times between 2012 and 2017 but was released each time.<\/p>\n
Walden remembered his son as an accomplished Marine and gifted intelligence analyst whose future was cut short.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy son was 21 years old. He was just starting his life,\u201d Walden said Friday during an appearance on \u201cThe Will Cain Show.\u201d \u201cHe was in the Marine Corps. He worked for intel. He worked for the\u00a0National Security Agency\u00a0as a crypto analyst, basically Jimmy Spide with a computer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was extremely good at what he did. His NSA boss told me that he was one of the most gifted analysts he\u2019d ever worked with. And they were wanting him, once he got out of the Marine Corps, to come to work for them.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd all that ended in the blink of an eye.\u201d<\/p>\n
Walden pushed back on calls by some Democratic leaders to\u00a0abolish ICE.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s got to be one of the most insane ideas I\u2019ve ever heard,\u201d he said. \u201cI cannot believe that they\u2019re condemning our ICE agents and our\u00a0DHS\u00a0for actually doing their job and enforcing the laws that Congress passed.\u201d<\/p>\n
When asked what his message was for politicians seeking to\u00a0eliminate the agency, Walden said his son\u2019s death showed why immigration enforcement remains necessary.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re never gonna understand the pain, the hole in your soul that this brings until it happens to you,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd don\u2019t think that it can\u2019t. It can happen to anyone at any time. My son was minding his own business. He\u2019d gone for a ride after work, doing nothing wrong, and his life was taken.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can\u2019t predict it, but you can prevent it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Walden credited President Donald Trump for\u00a0prioritizing immigration enforcement.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe that he\u2019s probably going to go down as one of the greatest presidents in this country,\u201d Walden said. \u201cHe stood by what he said.
