Watson also serves as director of the Department of Hawaiian Home Land.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Watson returned to the position in 2023, after previously leading DHHL from 1995 to 1998.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI truly appreciate Governor Green\u2019s continued confidence in me and I look forward to working alongside him to move the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands forward in historic and meaningful ways,\u201d said Watson in a news release.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2024-03-25-dhhl.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-96111\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2024-03-25-dhhl.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1419\" height=\"798\"  \/><\/a>DHHL Director Kali Watson speaks at SCHHA conference in January 2024 (courtesy DHHL)<\/p>\n<p>Of the other three names appointed to the Hawaiian Homes Commission, two are representatives from Hawai\u02bbi island: Kanoa Alapai and Mike Kaleikini.<\/p>\n<p>From the State of Hawai\u02bbi:<\/p>\n<p>Kanoa Alapai (appointment)<br \/>Alapai has nearly 20 years of experience in land stewardship, property management and agricultural operations. As senior land operations manager for Kamehameha Schools, he oversees approximately 175,000 acres across West Hawai\u02bbi. He previously managed Waiki\u02bbi Ranch and serves on the boards of the Paniolo Preservation Society and N\u0101 \u02bb\u014ciwi \u02bbO Pu\u02bbuanahulu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thank Governor Green and Chair Kali Watson for the privilege of serving the people of Hawai\u02bbi and the beneficiaries of the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands,\u201d Alapai said.<\/p>\n<p>Gabe Amey (appointment)<br \/>Amey is the founder and executive director of RiseHI Foundation and launched Our K\u016bpuna, which has supported more than 600 k\u016bpuna across five islands. He also brings more than two decades of business and lending experience, including helping local families pursue homeownership. Amey is an Omidyar Fellow and a graduate of St. Louis School and Menlo College.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m grateful to the Governor for the trust he has placed in me, and I accept this kuleana with humility,\u201d said Amey. \u201cServing Hawai\u02bbi\u2019s people has been the throughline of my life\u2019s work, from our keiki to our k\u016bpuna \u2014 and I look forward to listening to and learning from beneficiaries as we work to help more Hawaiian families put down roots on their own \u02bb\u0101ina.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mike Kaleikini (reappointment)<br \/>Kaleikini has more than 40 years of experience in power generation, including six years in the U.S. Navy and more than 35 years with Puna Geothermal Venture. He currently works in business development and serves with several Hawai\u02bbi Island business and community organizations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI look forward to continuing the great progress the Green administration, under Chair Kali Watson\u2019s leadership, has made for our beneficiaries,\u201d said Kaleikini.<\/p>\n<p>The State also announced that Dr. Robert Hong was reappointed to the Hawai\u02bbi State Ethics Commission. Laura Valenzuela was also appointed to the same commission.<\/p>\n<p>Wesley M.
