ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) \u2014 Mission Hospital is now in compliance with requirements set forth by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) after completing the hospital’s Enhanced Plan of Correction, according to an internal letter from hospital CEO Greg Lowe.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile we should take pride in reaching this milestone, our work is not finished. Our responsibility is to sustain this progress and continue raising the standard for the care we deliver,\u201d Lowe said in the letter.<\/p>\n

MISSION HOSPITAL PLACED IN IMMEDIATE JEOPARDY FOR 3RD TIME IN 2 YEARS<\/a><\/p>\n

The Enhanced Plan of Correction was submitted after a January survey resulted in an Immediate Jeopardy status, marking the third such designation in two years for the hospital. The Immediate Jeopardy status was lifted in March after the plan of correction was submitted and implemented in the following months.<\/p>\n

MISSION HOSPITAL EXPECTED TO HIRE INDEPENDENT CONSULTANT AFTER ‘IMMEDIATE JEOPARDY’ STATUS<\/a><\/p>\n

Lowe said the hospital would continue working with Bryant Healthcare Consultants, which was brought in following the latest Immediate Jeopardy status, through the end of the year.<\/p>\n

CMS informed the hospital that no additional surveys related to the January 2026 survey would be necessary, according to Lowe.<\/p>\n

Mission team,<\/p>\n

Last night, we received CMS\u2019s survey findings related to our Enhanced Plan of Correction (EPOC). CMS found Mission Hospital operates in substantial compliance with CMS requirements for hospitals and, as a result, CMS requires no additional surveys related to the January 2026 survey.<\/p>\n

This is an important milestone for Mission. It is the result of your work over the past several months to strengthen the care we provide to our patients every day.<\/p>\n

Together, we have worked with focus, urgency and professionalism to strengthen our care environment, staffing, training, communication and accountability. We are grateful for the commitment of our caregivers and physicians, as well as our HCA Healthcare colleagues, who conducted the EPOC work while continuing to care for our patients and community.<\/p>\n

The changes are improving the patient care and experience while helping our teams work more effectively. While we should take pride in reaching this milestone, our work is not finished. Our responsibility is to sustain this progress and continue raising the standard for the care we deliver. We will continue the efforts that brought us here including the daily operational reviews, enhanced staff training, additional leadership and Environment of Care rounding, more responsive feedback mechanisms such as our 24\/7 Patient Care Line and our Excellence ALWAYS commitments.<\/p>\n

Every patient and family should be able to rely on Mission for safe, compassionate, high-quality care they can trust. Together, we can make this happen.<\/p>\n

While not required by CMS, we will continue to be supported by Bryant Healthcare Consultants through the end of the year. Additionally, we will continue our collaboration with CMS, as we build on our commitment for continuous improvement.<\/p>\n
