\u201cShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings\u201d helmer Destin Daniel Cretton has delivered a critical and commercial smash hit with \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day\u201d which continues to break box-office records.<\/p>\n

Before that, Cretton was originally set to direct \u201cAvengers: The Kang Dynasty,\u201d a film originally slated for May 2025 which would see the heroes team up to face Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors).<\/p>\n

After \u201cAnt-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania\u201d fizzled and Majors hit legal issues, the project was retooled with Cretton effectively jettisoned in favour of bringing the Russos back for what has become \u201cAvengers: Doomsday\u201d.<\/p>\n

In an interview with The Wrap<\/a>, Cretton confirmed that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige offered him the option of directing \u201cAvengers: Doomsday\u201d first but he turned it down:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I told Kevin Feige I didn\u2019t think I was the right fit for that, he mentioned \u2018Spidey\u2019 in the room, which was a huge relief to me because I thought he\u2019d be like, \u2018OK, see you later\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

He adds he met \u201cSpider-Man\u201d franchise producer Amy Pascal around \u201cfive or six months later\u201d as she called and said: \u201cWe still don\u2019t have a script, but we really want you to do this movie.\u201d<\/p>\n

It has also been revealed that Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the initial writers on all the Tom Holland-led \u201cSpider-Man\u201d films, also worked on the scripts for both \u201cAvengers: Doomsday\u201d and \u201cAvengers: Secret Wars\u201d.<\/p>\n

Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron have previously been indicated as the writers for those films and have very likely built on their work in much the same way \u201cChallengers\u201d writer Justin Kuritzkes did with \u2018Brand New Day\u2019.<\/p>\n

While Kuritzkes didn\u2019t get a screenplay credit, Cretton tells the outlet his work was invaluable:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Justin came in, he brought fresh eyes and a new perspective, and he\u2019s clearly got a different perspective with the way that he writes. He was with me every day throughout the entire process to the end of the movie, and he wrote some of the most beautiful scenes in our movie.\u201d<\/p>\n
