MANILA, Philippines\u2014Alex Eala made sure history didn\u2019t repeat itself, fending off gritty American Alycia Parks, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, in the 2026 Canadian Open in Toronto on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

Eala had an answer to Parks\u2019 comeback this time around, winning the final four games of the third set to advance to the round of 32 of the WTA 1000 tournament.<\/p>\n

Parks showed flashes of the comeback that spoiled Eala\u2019s Australian Open main-draw<\/a> debut last January, when she was blanked in the opening set before rallying for a 0-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory.<\/p>\n

Seven months later, the World No. 71 again recovered from a lopsided opening-set loss and pushed Eala to a decider.<\/p>\n

But the Filipino tennis ace, now a WTA Tour champion just days removed from her run to the Mubadala DC Open title<\/a>, refused to experience the same heartbreak.<\/p>\n

Eala raced to a 2-0 lead in the deciding set before Parks won the next two games to tie it.<\/p>\n

The World No. 20 from the Philippines quickly regained control, highlighted by a dominant eighth game in which she blanked the American before forcing a net error with a powerful forehand to move within a game of victory.<\/p>\n

MANILA, Philippines \u2014 Fresh off winning her first WTA Tour title, Alex Eala seeks to carry her momentum into the Canadian Open.<\/p>\n

Eala is riding high after claiming the biggest title of her career at the DC Open on Tuesday and she looks to continue her winning ways against American Alycia Parks in the round of 64 in Toronto on Thursday, 8:10 a.m. (Manila time), at Center Court.<\/p>\n

The Filipino ace, who got a first-round bye as the 25th seed in the WTA 1000 hard court tournament, takes on her Australian Open tormentor, Parks.<\/p>\n

Eala was beaten by Parks, 6-0, 3-6, 2-6, in the opening round in Melbourne<\/a> last January.<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old Eala, however, is playing her best tennis yet this season with a historic run at Wimbledon and a maiden WTA 500 crown in Washington when she stunned American World No. 3 Jessica Pegula in the final.<\/p>\n

MANILA, Philippines \u2014 After their reunion failed to push through in the DC Open, Alex Eala and Venus Williams will give it another go at the Canadian Open, also known as the National Bank Open in Toronto.<\/p>\n

The Filipino-American duo received a wild card entry to play in Toronto, where Eala is also competing in the singles event of the WTA 1000 hard court tournament.<\/p>\n

Eala, the newly minted DC Open champion, and the 14-time Grand Slam doubles winner Williams take on Liudmila Samsonova and Miyu Kato in the round of 32 late Thursday night (Manila time).<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old Eala and Williams joined forces for the first time at the Bad Homburg Open, where they reached the quarterfinal before falling to Olivia Nicholls and Tereza Mihalikova, 6-3, 6-2.<\/p>\n
