The Suns have agreed to sign veteran forward Dillon Brooks<\/a> to a three-year contract extension worth $73MM, ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania reports (via Twitter<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Brooks had a career year as a scorer last season, his first with the club after coming over from the Rockets in the Kevin Durant<\/a> trade<\/a>. He averaged 20.2 points on 17.1 shots per game, both career highs, and helped establish a tough-minded mindset for a team looking to reestablish its culture following Durant\u2019s departure.<\/p>\n

Phoenix exceeded expectations after revamping its roster during the 2025 offseason, finishing seventh in the Western Conference before being swept out of the first round of the playoffs by the Thunder. Brooks\u2019 ability to step up and be the secondary scoring option on the team while stabilizing the wing depth as Jalen Green<\/a> battled health issues was a crucial part of that success.<\/p>\n

Acknowledging that there\u2019s a chance the deal \u201cmight approach overpay territory\u201d before it expires, Gerald Bourguet of Suns After Dark (Twitter link<\/a>) notes that the Suns value Brooks\u2019 off-court leadership and culture-setting as much as anything he does on the floor.<\/p>\n

The deal amounts to around 13% of the salary cap, according to Yossi Gozlan of the Third Apron (Twitter link<\/a>), who believes it should retain positive trade value going forward. Because he\u2019ll officially sign before August 11, Brooks will be eligible to be moved at the February 11 trade deadline<\/a> if the team decides to go that route.<\/p>\n

The Suns clearly valued continuity after overachieving last season, making it a priority to lock up several of their key contributors, Charania notes (via Twitter<\/a>), with Collin Gillespie<\/a>, Mark Williams<\/a>, and Jordan Goodwin<\/a> each signing new deals as free agents.
