The news we\u2019ve all been waiting for has finally arrived: Rihanna<\/a> is working on new music.<\/p>\n

The long-awaited update came nearly straight from the source, as Rihanna\u2019s partner, A$AP Rocky<\/a>, let slip that she has been back \u201cin the studio.\u201d He shared the tidbit while being interviewed on BET\u2019s The Jason Lee Show<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It all started when host Lee asked the rapper if he\u2019s the reason that Rihanna hasn\u2019t released any new music<\/a> (her last studio album, Anti, came out in 2016). \u201cYo, she in the studio right now,\u201d Rocky confessed about an hour and a half into the interview.<\/p>\n

The \u201cHelicopter\u201d singer then went on to say: \u201cYeah, I said it. Sorry, babe. Bro, she working. She cooking, bro. No funny shit.\u201d He then jokingly added: \u201cDamn, I\u2019mma get in trouble for this.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Lee suggested that the pair should release a double album together, Rocky quickly shot the idea down. \u201cThat\u2019s trash. Nobody wants to hear us together, bro,\u201d he said. \u201cI make subversive weird-ass indie rap.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rihanna has been on a hiatus from music for about a decade, focusing instead on her businesses, like Fenty Beauty<\/a> and Savage X Fenty<\/a>. She\u2019s also welcomed three kids with Rocky, including RZA, 4, Riot, 3, and Rocki, 10 months.<\/p>\n

In the last few years, the Barbados native has only recorded a couple of soundtrack cuts, like the Oscar-nominated \u201cLift Me Up\u201d<\/a> for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) and \u201cFriend of Mine\u201d<\/a> for The Smurfs (2025).<\/p>\n

For her March 2025 Harper\u2019s Bazaar cover story<\/a>, Rihanna declared that she\u2019d finally found the sound<\/a> for her next album. \u201cI think music is my freedom. I just came to that realization. I just cracked the code on what I really want to do for my next body of work,\u201d she said. \u201cI am actually feeling really good about this. I know I kept saying this over the years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although rumors swirled that the record would be reggae-inspired, Rihanna quickly debunked this theory. \u201cThere\u2019s no genre now,\u201d she noted. \u201cThat\u2019s why I waited. Every time, I was just like, \u2018No, it\u2019s not me. It\u2019s not right. It\u2019s not matching my growth. It\u2019s not matching my evolution. I can\u2019t do this. I can\u2019t stand by this. I can\u2019t perform this for a year on tour.\u2019 After a while, I looked at it, and I was like, this much time away from music needs to count for the next thing everyone hears. It has to count. It has to matter. I have to show them the worth in the wait. I cannot put up anything mediocre. After waiting eight years, you might as well just wait some more.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cI\u2019ve been in the studio the whole eight years. But it didn\u2019t hit me. I was searching for it. I went through phases of what I wanted to do. \u2018This kind of album, not that album.\u2019 I know it\u2019s not going to be anything that anybody expects. And it\u2019s not going to be commercial or radio digestible. It\u2019s going to be where my artistry deserves to be right now.
