However, Edwards has departed the project over creative differences, Variety has confirmed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tScarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey led the prehistoric revival, which revolved around a top-secret quest to retrieve the DNA of dinosaurs to create a miracle drug. Plot details for the follow-up haven\u2019t been confirmed, but screenwriter David Koepp is expected to return alongside Johansson, Ali and Bailey. The studio hopes to begin shooting the sequel in 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe had an incredible experience working with Gareth on Jurassic World Rebirth,\u201d Universal said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAlthough the property remains popular, \u201cJurassic\u201d is experiencing some diminishing returns at the box office. Universal\u2019s initial \u201cJurassic Park\u201d spinoff trilogy, anchored by Chris Pratt\u00a0and Bryce Dallas Howard, launched with 2015\u2019s \u201cJurassic World\u201d and concluded with 2022\u2019s \u201cJurassic World Dominion\u201d \u2014 all of which eclipsed $1 billion in global ticket sales. These movies are enormously expensive, with production budgets that regularly soar above $250 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThis film will be the eighth installment in the \u201cJurassic\u201d franchise. Steven Spielberg first brought to life the pages of Michael Crichton\u2019s novel about a disastrous attempt to create a theme park with dinosaurs. Spielberg directed the original 1993 adventure, starring Sam Neill,\u00a0Laura Dern,\u00a0Jeff Goldblum, and\u00a0Richard Attenborough, as well as the 1997 sequel \u201cThe Lost World,\u201d while director Joe Johnston took over filmmaking duties for 2001\u2019s trilogy-capper \u201cJurassic World III.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tEdwards is otherwise best known for \u201cGodzilla,\u201d \u201cRogue One: A Star Wars Story\u201d and \u201cThe Creator.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\u201cJurassic World Rebirth\u201d director Gareth Edwards is leaving the dinosaurs behind.
