{"id":805129,"date":"2026-08-06T23:56:10","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T23:56:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/805129\/"},"modified":"2026-08-06T23:56:10","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T23:56:10","slug":"concerns-growing-over-carlos-alcaraz-injury-before-us-open-kept-in-the-dark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/805129\/","title":{"rendered":"Concerns growing over Carlos Alcaraz injury before US Open: &#8216;Kept in the dark&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tennis fans clamoring to see seven-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz back on the court have been kept waiting for months \u2013 and it looks like that wait isn\u2019t quite over.<\/p>\n<p>Alcaraz pulled out of the Cincinnati Open, a US Open lead-up tournament that begins Aug. 15, due to lingering worries surrounding a wrist injury., <\/p>\n<p>The superstar tennis player from Spain was diagnosed with wrist tenosynovitis, inflammation in the protective sheath around wrist tendons.<\/p>\n<p>Alcaraz has not appeared on the tour since April\u2019s Barcelona Open, meaning he\u2019s missed half of the majors of the season with his absences at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, along with several other ATP tournaments.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"40219764\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/carlos-alcaraz-spain-practice-session-136477358.jpg\" alt=\"Carlos Alcaraz during a practice session.\" class=\"wp-image-40219764\"  \/>Carlos Alcaraz of Spain during a practice session at Real Sociedad Club De Campo on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, in Murcia, Spain. (2026 Getty Images) Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Along with much of the tennis world, Greg Rusedski, the former British No. 1, has expressed concern over what\u2019s really happening with Alcaraz\u2019s progress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it was just a little bit of inflammation, a little problem, he would have been back by now,\u201d Rusedski <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8Ko9aFmTvsw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a> on his podcast Off Court with Greg Rusedski.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only people who know are Carlos Alcaraz and the rest of his team,\u201d he continued. \u201cBut this is taking a lot longer than we thought\u2026We\u2019re just being kept in the dark here. (2026 Getty Images) Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Tennis365\u2019s Kevin Palmer joined the episode and had a different view, defending Alcaraz\u2019s team\u2019s strategy of radio silence as the right thing to do competition-wise. <\/p>\n<p>Palmer referenced Rafael Nadal at the 2022 French Open, when he played through severe foot issues and had nerves in his foot completely numbed so he could continue on.<\/p>\n<p>Rusedski doesn\u2019t agree with the strategy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will only ever be one Rafa,\u201d Rusedski noted. \u201cA lot of players watch that documentary and think, \u2018Oh, I can play through pain.\u2019 Most people can\u2019t, let\u2019s be frank. And if they try to, they make it worse.
