This is a lot closer to our initial bid for the 28-year-old left back, \u20ac15m, then any subsequent demands from Rayo, some of which may have been as high as \u20ac45m. More recent stories spoke of a \u20ac25m asking price, but it looks like we got it done below that (about halfway between our first offer and their last demand). Twenty mil is still a decent chunk of change of course, though in today\u2019s market, it really isn\u2019t much at all.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">A product of his hometown UE Figueres academy, Chavarr\u00eda made his name in the third and second tiers of Spanish football before joining top flight Rayo Vallecano four years ago. He\u2019s been a mainstay in their team the last couple years, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/articles\/c4gygn47rpmo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">evidently<\/a> catching the eye of then Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso in the process.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">Chavarr\u00eda should slot in as our starting left back, as Marc Cucurella\u2019s de facto replacement. While this seems like a move with a relatively low ceiling, it should also be one with a relatively high floor.
