The Amazon billionaire,<\/a> 62, and One Battle After Another actor, 51, recently announced the creation of the Phoenix Species Project, a $200 million commitment to \u201cbring 100 of the world\u2019s most threatened species back from the brink.\u201d<\/p>\n The project, created through their foundations \u2014 the Bezos Earth Fund <\/a>and Re:wild \u2014 is described as \u201cthe largest single philanthropic initiative ever dedicated to the recovery of Critically Endangered species\u201d across 30 countries.<\/p>\n Their venture has been met with swift criticism, with many accusing the pair of \u201cgreenwashing,\u201d<\/a> a deceptive marketing tactic in which organizations portray themselves as environmentally friendly while concealing a broader negative environmental impact.<\/p>\n \u201cAs soon as people realize and actually feel the effects of what those rich f**** did to our planet they suddenly start their greenwashing campaign,\u201d one person wrote on Reddit. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u201cPropaganda, billionaires are the problem, not the solution,\u201d a second declared.<\/p>\n \u201cWe just want you to pay taxes,\u201d a third begged, while a fourth quipped: \u201cThe middle class in America is an endangered species.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cUber-wealthy people helping a fraction of the problems that they cause,\u201d another claimed. \u201cFor publicity.\u201d<\/p>\n Some argued that Bezos\u2019s contribution to the project felt disingenuous, given that Amazon continues to build data centers nationwide<\/a>, which harm the environment and surrounding communities<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cA far more effective execution would be to just stop destroying it with your private jets, mega yachts, and data centers,\u201d one insisted.<\/p>\n \u201cThe performative nonsense whilst doing so much harm to the environment with their companies, their jets, their multiple houses, their yachts, their movie productions, etc.,\u201d a second agreed. <\/p>\n \u201cFor Jeff Bezos this is spare change to try to greenwash his reputation,\u201d a third added, \u201cbut nonetheless the money is very welcome.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWow Jeff\u2019s finna try to save the actual Amazon,\u201d a fourth joked. \u201cBout damn time.\u201d<\/p>\n Several defended DiCaprio\u2019s efforts, reminding others that the Titanic star is \u201creally big into the environment.\u201d <\/p>\n![\"Jeff](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Jeff-Bezos-and-Leonardo-DiCaprio.png\")
