Coronation Street star Julia Goulding has spoken exclusively to Digital Spy about the potential return of her character Shona Platt\u2019s dad Doug Ramsey, as the drama with her and sister Jodie escalates.<\/p>\n

Doug appeared in one episode earlier this year<\/a>, when Shona tracked down Jodie sitting at their estranged dad\u2019s bedside in a psychiatric hospital \u2013 and it seems Julia is keen to see more of this character\u2019s relationship with the sisters.<\/p>\n

Julia talked to us while taking part in a fun photoshoot celebrating Corrie\u2019s nominations in the Inside Soap Awards 2026<\/a>. The pictures appear in this week\u2019s bumper issue of Inside Soap<\/a>, which is out now.<\/p>\n

Hi, Julia! How does it feel to be up for Best Partnership and Best Family at the Inside Soap Awards 2026?<\/p>\n

“To be up for Best Partnership [with Jack P Shepherd, as Shona and David] feels very exciting. It\u2019s something we haven\u2019t ever won, and we have been together 10 years now, so to win it on our 10th anniversary would be really special!<\/p>\n

“And being up for Best Family \u2013 I mean, come on, it\u2019s the Platts. We are the best family! And I think we won it a couple of years ago as well, so it\u2019s nice to be back in the nominations again.”<\/p>\n

Why should fans get behind Corrie in the Best Soap category this year?<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s Coronation Street, we are the OG! I think we\u2019ve had some fantastic storylines, some excellent performances, and we definitely, definitely deserve to win it!”<\/p>\n

Producer Kate Brooks has warned that there\u2019s turmoil coming up for the Platts this year. Do you think fans should be worried about David and Shona?<\/p>\n

“I think fans should be very worried about David and Shona. I think Jodie is capable of all sorts of mischief<\/a>, and maybe something a bit darker than that. So I think the fans should definitely be worried.<\/p>\n

“I would like to think that they could survive anything as a couple, but who knows? Jodie is extremely manipulative and she\u2019s very good at it as well. So watch this space\u2026”<\/p>\n

What do you think Jodie\u2019s endgame is? Do you think she\u2019s trying to destroy Shona or steal her life?<\/p>\n

“Goodness me, I have no idea \u2013 I don\u2019t even know if Jodie does, to be honest! Jodie\u2019s definitely Single White Female-ing Shona. I think she feels very owed, because Shona now has quite a comfortable life.<\/p>\n

“But I keep reminding everyone, Shona\u2019s not Jodie\u2019s mum! She got kicked out at 13 with her baby, so I don\u2019t actually think Shona\u2019s done all that wrong \u2013 but I would say that, of course!”<\/p>\n

Do you know if we\u2019ll see Shona and Jodie\u2019s dad Doug again, after he appeared in one episode earlier this year?<\/p>\n

“I can neither deny nor confirm! But it was wonderful working with Steve Evets, and personally I would be absolutely delighted if Doug Ramsey came back to the cobbles.”<\/p>\n

Why do you think Shona\u2019s not more concerned about Jodie\u2019s game, has she taken her eye off the ball a bit?<\/p>\n

“I think Shona\u2019s lack of concern about Jodie is possibly due to the fact that she\u2019s got a little tiny baby who\u2019s been incredibly poorly. She\u2019s been in hospital, she\u2019s been back and forth, she doesn\u2019t know which way is up. So I think that\u2019s somewhat pulled the wool over her eyes a little bit, in terms of how sharp she is. And she\u2019s got a brain injury!”<\/p>\n

Are you still happy at Corrie and still committed to the show?<\/p>\n

“I adore being on Coronation Street, I always have and I always will!”<\/p>\n
