However, in the years since 1988, many of those pop hits have been forgotten by listeners. I don\u2019t think that\u2019s fair, especially when it comes to the following four era-defining tunes. Let\u2019s revisit some classics and give them some love!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPerfect World\u201d by Huey Lewis And The News from \u2018Small World\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tPlay video<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1786153210_828_hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Play\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Remember \u201cPerfect World\u201d by Huey Lewis And The News? This rock classic was a crossover pop hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at No. 3. The song was also quite successful in the UK, though it didn\u2019t quite make it to the Top 40 there.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tVideos by American Songwriter\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Fun fact: This song was written by Alex Call, an old bandmate of Lewis. Call is famous for writing the ultra-catchy song \u201c867-5309\/Jenny\u201d for Tommy Tutone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI Don\u2019t Want Your Love\u201d by Duran Duran from \u2018Big Thing\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tPlay video<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1786153210_65_hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Play\"\/><\/p>\n<p>There are plenty of <a href=\"https:\/\/americansongwriter.com\/tag\/duran-duran\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Duran Duran<\/a> songs out there that fans still jam out to, from \u201cHungry Like The Wolf\u201d to \u201cThe Reflex\u201d. \u201cI Don\u2019t Want Your Love\u201d, though, doesn\u2019t get quite as much attention. That\u2019s a shame, because this song still slaps after all these years. You just can\u2019t beat that very funky bassline.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI Don\u2019t Want Your Love\u201d peaked at No. 4 on the Hot 100 chart and did well internationally. The music video, likewise, was a big hit at the time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Promise\u201d by When In Rome from \u2018When In Rome\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tPlay video<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1786153211_750_hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Play\"\/><\/p>\n<p>This new wave hit was all over the radio in 1988, and for good reason. \u201cThe Promise\u201d by When In Rome is a very danceable song and remains When In Rome\u2019s biggest hit. Sadly, I can\u2019t remember the last time I heard this song out in the wild. It\u2019s such an iconic tune that really defined 1988 musically, and I think it deserves more love.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Promise\u201d peaked at No. 11 on the Hot 100 when it was released. The song later got a breath of new life among millennials when it was used in the closing scene of the 2004 film Napoleon Dynamite.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWaiting For A Star To Fall\u201d by Boy Meets Girl from \u2018Reel Life\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tPlay video<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1786153211_359_hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Play\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWaiting For A Star To Fall\u201d by Boy Meets Girl was, interestingly enough, written by the duo after seeing a real-life shooting star at a Whitney Houston concert. In fact, the duo offered the song to Houston initially, but it was rejected. Belinda Carlisle would pass on it as well, so Boy Meets Girl recorded it themselves. This pop hit from 1988 has been forgotten by many, but it was a real smash when it was released.
