Fulfilling what we\u2019d estimate to be about 0.01 percent of fanfiction authors\u2019 total hopes and desires for things they\u2019d like to watch the cast of HBO\u2019s The Pitt\u00a0do with each other,\u00a0Polygon\u00a0reports this weekend<\/a> that Noah Wyle and his various fake TV doctors and nurses will soon be playing the fake doctors and starship captains of TV mainstay\u00a0Star Trek. Specifically, the show\u2019s cast has signed on to do a live reading of the script for \u201cThe Man Trap,\u201d<\/a> the first broadcast episode of the original Star Trek series from all the way back in 1966, in a benefit show for the Writers Guild Foundation. Although the live event will be held at Los Angeles\u2019 Lodge Room on August 30, livestream tickets<\/a> are also being sold, so the online hordes can watch Noah Wyle deploy his best William Shatner for the occasion.<\/p>\n

Because of\u00a0course\u00a0Dr. Robby is the Captain Kirk of this whole operation, as Wyle will lead a cast of\u00a0Pitt\u00a0participants that includes Fiona Dourif, Shabana Azeez, and Ayesha Harris, along with Katherine \u201cNurse Dana\u201d LaNasa, playing Dr. Leonard \u201cBones\u201d McCoy, and Taylor Dearden as the live-read\u2019s version of Spock. (It\u2019s been a minute since we\u2019ve watched the 60-year-old \u201cThe Man Trap,\u201d meanwhile, but we remember it goes pretty heavy on the McCoy stuff; we\u2019re excited to hear what LaNasa and Wyle sound like wrestling with a shape-shifting \u201csalt vampire.\u201d) Somewhat amusingly, Isa Briones, the only member of the Pitt\u00a0cast to have a serious\u00a0Star Trek background, courtesy of\u00a0Picard, apparently won\u2019t be appearing in the production.<\/p>\n

The Writers Guild Foundation is a non-profit that preserves and promotes the history of screenwriting; the organization was founded in 1966, the same year\u00a0Star Trek\u00a0debuted, with series creator Gene Roddenberry as a founding member. Among other things, the group maintains an archive of screenplays, with the script for \u201cThe Man Trap\u201d\u00a0 being pulled out of said library for the event.<\/p>\n
