JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013 Duval County Public Schools delayed bus service for elementary students Monday afternoon due to inclement weather.<\/p>\n
The district announced the delay at 3:50 p.m., citing an abundance of caution as the reason for holding elementary school buses. Officials warned that middle school bus service would likely be impacted as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cOut of an abundance of caution, we delayed bus service for elementary school students due to inclement weather,\u201d the district said in an alert. \u201cAs a result, bus service for middle school students will likely be delayed as well. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work to ensure every child is transported home safely.\u201d<\/p>\n
Each year, 860 buses transport approximately 48,000 students on more than 3,600 daily trips to Duval County Public Schools.<\/p>\n
The bus companies that contract with DCPS are\u00a0Durham School Services\u00a0and\u00a0Student Transportation of America (STA).<\/p>\n
Families can contact the bus companies for general questions such as the location of a bus or estimated time of arrival at a bus stop. You can find the contact info for each bus company, organized by which area of town the bus route serves, at\u00a0www.duvalschools.org\/page\/busvendor<\/a>.<\/p>\n The DCPS Transportation Department is open from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
