The Ministry of Health has rejected claims of a shortage of Antiretroviral Medicines (ARVs) in Ghana, saying the medicines remain available at designated health facilities across the country.<\/p>\n
The ministry\u2019s response follows a statement by the Network of Persons Living with HIV in Ghana (NAP+ Ghana), which raised concerns about the availability of ARVs.<\/p>\n
But the Spokesperson for the ministry, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, said: \u201cIt is not accurate that antiretroviral medicines are unavailable in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to the ministry, it is currently restocking medical commodities at the Medical Stores as part of its routine procurement and supply processes, with plans \u201cfar advanced\u201d to fulfil the obligation.<\/p>\n
The ministry said the ongoing efforts are aimed at ensuring sustained availability and timely distribution of medicines and other essential health commodities to health facilities nationwide.<\/p>\n
It also rejected claims that ARVs had expired at the port, saying it was working with relevant stakeholders to ensure the effective management and timely clearance of medical commodities.<\/p>\n

The ministry said it had engaged NAP+ Ghana over the concerns and assured the organisation of its open-door policy in addressing issues related to the availability and distribution of ARVs.<\/p>\n
It reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that persons living with HIV have uninterrupted access to medicines and related health services.<\/p>\n
