Wisneski’s family did not know how the film would be formatted. Their discovery that Parsons recorded a voiceover brought a wave of emotion to everyone, Wisneski said.<\/p>\n
“I immediately called my Mom,” he said. “[I] played a clip for her, and of course, she started crying. … It was very emotional for her to hear her father’s voice, which she hasn’t heard since he passed away in 1984.”<\/p>\n

Wisneski has some memories of visiting his grandfather in Andrews. He remembers going to the ocean and the water seeming much warmer than where he’d moved on the Pacific. He also recalls sitting with his grandfather in the back of a truck during the 1979 Fourth of July parade, waving at the crowd.\u00a0<\/p>\n
And he can picture his grandparents’ backyard and their two pugs that he would play with. Southern food left its mark, too.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“My grandmother and my mom are both great Southern cooks,” Wisneski said. “So I have a strong memory of that, eating fried chicken and grits and all the things that are common down there.”<\/p>\n
After his death, Parsons’ legacy as a “Hemingway-like character” lived on through his family, Wisneski said. Parsons grew up in Andrews, was the star of the football team, attended Furman University, joined the military, worked in radio and as an actor, and ended up with a government job. He had a prominent role under U.S. Sen. Burnet Maybank, and there is a picture of him with Vice President Alben Barkley from the Truman Administration, Wisneski said.<\/p>\n
Parsons also traveled the world, living in both London and Brussels at different times. He took his cameras with him, and his family is working to digitize some of his shots from Africa and Europe. Wisneski found out through an old newspaper article that Parsons made a documentary about sea turtles in the Cayman Islands. Wisneski is still working to find out more about that work.<\/p>\n
Despite all he’d witnessed, Parsons maintained that the most beautiful river he ever saw was South Carolina’s Black River, Wisneski said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Wisneski’s family did not know how the film would be formatted.
