Manchester City<\/a> have completed the signing of Argentina goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli from Marseille.<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old returns to Etihad Stadium – where he spent the 2016-17 season without making a first-team appearance – on a two-year deal.<\/p>\n

BBC Sport previously reported that City have paid a fee of \u00a31.7m<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He comes in as a replacement for England goalkeeper James Trafford, who left City to join Leeds<\/a> in a deal worth up to \u00a345m, and will be understudy to number one Gianluigi Donnarumma.<\/p>\n

“This is an amazing opportunity for me and one I had to grasp. When the chance to join Manchester City<\/a> comes along you have to go for it,” Rulli said.<\/p>\n

“Everyone knows what an impressive club this is. City’s success over a long time has been impressive. Everyone I have spoken to about City said I had to join them because they are a club with incredibly high standards.<\/p>\n

“Every professional wants to be in a high-performance environment and I can’t wait to get started because I know I will improve and learn, which is always my main priority.”<\/p>\n

Rulli famously scored a penalty in Villarreal’s 2021 Europa League final victory over Manchester United<\/a>, before denying opposite number David de Gea to decide the marathon shootout.<\/p>\n

He has won eight caps for Argentina and was part of the squad that won the 2022 World Cup and 2024 Copa America, and reached the 2026 World Cup final.<\/p>\n
