Nicole Kidman admitted she prioritized her relationship with Tom Cruise<\/a> over her career when they got married 35 years ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I got married so young,\u201d Kidman told British Vogue <\/a>in an interview published Thursday, recalling that she \u201csuddenly was 23 years old\u201d with a \u201chuge movie star husband.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Kidman, now 59, said that \u201cjust seemed completely natural\u201d at the time.<\/p>\n

But Kidman said their relationship \u201cseemed completely natural\u201d at the time. Venetia Scott<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just fell madly in love and it was that simple,\u201d she explained of the former couple. \u201cI remember people saying to me, \u2018OK, well this is really going to affect your career.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018I don\u2019t care. I\u2019m in love. I want to be married.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The Oscar winner continued, \u201cThen, I was his \u2018wife\u2019 and they were like, \u2018See, we told you.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018So what? I wasn\u2019t meant to marry the man I love? Of course I\u2019ll throw my career away. I don\u2019t care.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Kidman and Cruise, now 64, met on the set of \u201cDays of Thunder\u201d and got married a year later on Christmas Eve in 1990. They got divorced in 2001.<\/p>\n

The \u201cEyes Wide Shut\u201d co-stars adopted daughter Isabella<\/a> in 1992 and son Connor <\/a>in 1995.<\/p>\n

Kidman previously explained that she was \u201cso impulsive and naive\u201d when she got married to Cruise in her early 20s. <\/p>\n

\u201cI was reeling with Tom. I would have gone to the ends of the earth for him,\u201d she said in a 2012 interview with DuJour<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Kidman experienced major career success following their divorce, scoring a major hit with the critically acclaimed \u201cMoulin Rouge!\u201d She later admitted she threw herself into work following the tumultuous period in her personal life.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t able to handle the reality of my life,\u201d she shared at the 2015\u00a0Women in the World summit<\/a>. \u201cAnd as an actor, you have this wonderful thing where you can go and get lost in somebody else\u2019s life and become somebody else for a period of time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kidman found love again with Keith Urban, whom she married in 2006 after a quick engagement<\/a>. They welcomed daughters Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret in 2008 and 2010, respectively.<\/p>\n

The actress and the country singer separated last year<\/a> after\u00a0nearly two decades of marriage<\/a>. They finalized their divorce<\/a>\u00a0in January.<\/p>\n

In her British Vogue interview, Kidman compared her two divorces, admitting that things aren\u2019t easier the second time around.<\/p>\n

Kidman also said she\u2019s more accustomed to the attention on her personal life now than when she was with Cruise. <\/p>\n

\u201cStrangely enough, I feel comfortable. Is that weird? That\u2019s so weird,\u201d she told the outlet. \u201cBut you have to remember literally, because of who I married at such a young age, I was thrust into it since I was 22.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the interview, the \u201cBig Little Lies\u201d star noted that she \u201cdidn\u2019t expect\u201d her latest life twist<\/a>, \u201cbut this is what it is now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou make all these plans and you have all these ideas of what it\u2019s all going to be like and then it\u2019s \u2026 not. You have to adjust. You adapt,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
