\n\tMiguel is back in the Land of the Dead in the first look at \u201cCoco 2<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAt D23, Disney revealed new concept art from the film, which depicts a teenage Miguel alongside his beloved dog, Dante. The company also revealed that the Pixar sequel is set to hit theaters in November 2029 and that Benjamin Bratt will reprise the role of Ernesto de la Cruz.<\/p>\n

\n\tOnstage at the event, Bratt touched on the new movie\u2019s storyline. \u201cTo some, Miguel is a little menace who ruined a career and destroyed a legacy,\u201d he said. \u201cErnesto de la Cruz is back for revenge, sending Miguel on an adventure back to the land of the dead. Proving fate has a sense of humor, Miguel must team up with a handsome superstar: me.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tOriginal \u201cCoco\u201d director Lee Unkrich is returning to direct with Adrian Molina. Mark Nielsen, a Pixar veteran known for \u201cToy Story 4\u201d and \u201cInside Out 2,\u201d is attached to produce.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe first \u201cCoco\u201d released in theaters back in 2017 over the Thanksgiving holiday and became a hit with both critics and audiences. It grossed over $800 million at the global box office and won two Oscars, for best animated feature and best original song with \u201cRemember Me.\u201d The original film follows a young boy named Miguel who feels a calling to music against his family\u2019s wishes. On the Mexican holiday of Dia de Los Muertos,\u00a0he goes on an adventure to the Land of the Dead and uncovers his family\u2019s secrets.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cCoco 2\u201d is the latest Pixar sequel hoping to capitalize on the studio\u2019s biggest successes from decades past. The studio\u2019s recent releases include \u201cToy Story 5\u201d and \u201cInside Out 2,\u201d which both grossed over $1 billion worldwide, while their original slate has included \u201cHoppers,\u201d \u201cElio\u201d and \u201cElemental.\u201d \u201cThe Incredibles 3\u201d is the studio\u2019s next sequel, set to release in 2028.<\/p>\n

\n\tUnkrich also directed \u201cToy Story 3,\u201d for which he won an Oscar, and co-directed early classics \u201cFinding Nemo,\u201d \u201cMonsters, Inc.\u201d and \u201cToy Story 2.\u201d He had originally retired back in 2019 to spend time with family.
