In 1979, Queen released \u201cCrazy Little Thing Called Love<\/a>\u201d. Written by Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of Queen, \u201cCrazy Little Thing Called Love\u201d is part of their eighth studio album, The Game.<\/p>\n

\u201cCrazy Little Thing Called Love\u201d remains one of Queen\u2019s most popular\u2014and most covered\u2014songs. The feel-good chorus says, \u201cThis thing called love \/ I just can\u2019t handle it \/ This thing called love \/ I must get \u2019round to it \/ I ain\u2019t ready \/ Crazy little thing called love.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mercury is the writer behind a lot of Queen songs. But unlike some of Queen\u2019s other hits penned by Mercury, \u201cCrazy Little Thing Called Love\u201d was written in record time. The idea, perhaps surprisingly, came to Mercury while he was taking a bath.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2019Crazy Little Thing Called Love\u2019 took me five or 10 minutes,\u201d Mercury later recalls<\/a>. \u201cI did that on the guitar, which I can\u2019t play for nuts, and in one way it was quite a good thing because I was restricted, knowing only a few chords. It\u2019s a good discipline because I simply had to write within a small framework.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCrazy Little Thing Called Love\u201d was written well before the rest of The Game, becoming the most pivotal song on the record.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe recorded that song, really, six months before the rest of the album,\u201d band member Roger Taylor reveals.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt took half an hour to record,\u201d he continues. \u201cI remember [Mercury] came in the studio. He says, \u2018My dear, I just wrote this in the bath,\u2019 and he did. He\u2019d just been lying in the bath, and there it was. It was very simple, very easy, and it had a great fresh sound to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCrazy Little Thing Called Love\u201d became a four-week No. 1 hit for Queen. Interestingly, after \u201cCrazy Little Thing Called Love\u201d, Queen only had one more No. 1 single in the United States. In 1980, Queen released \u201cAnother One Bites The Dust\u201d. Although they had many more hit singles, that song is their final single to reach the top of the charts in the States.<\/p>\n

Other artists who put their own spin on \u201cCrazy Little Thing Called Love\u201d include Michael Bubl\u00e9, Diana Ross, Juice Newton, and Rihanna, among others. In 1999, Dwight Yoakam had a Top 20 hit with his version of this song. Yoakam\u2019s take on \u201cCrazy Little Thing Called Love\u201d also became his last big radio hit.<\/p>\n
