Iran and Oman have agreed on a navigation map for ships
\npassing through the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced on
\nSaturday, setting out clearer routes for maritime traffic through one of the
\nworld’s most important oil shipping lanes.<\/p>\n
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei described talks
\nbetween Tehran and Muscat as progressing steadily and positively, despite the
\n\u2018\u2019US efforts to hinder the process.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has previously
\nframed the talks as separate from any negotiations with the United States, with
\nthe discussions focused on technical aspects of maritime traffic, including
\nshipping routes and vessel movements through the Strait.<\/p>\n
Araghchi has also drawn a distinction between agreeing on
\nnavigation routes and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, maintaining that the
\nresumption of navigation through the waterway would depend on Tehran’s
\nconditions being met.<\/p>\n
Hormuz, through which roughly 20% of the world’s oil
\npasses, has remained largely closed under Iranian restrictions since Feb. 28 in
\nresponse to the US-Israeli war, disrupting regional energy flows. The strategic
\nwaterway briefly reopened after a US-Iran memorandum of understanding (MoU)
\nentered into force on June 18, but closed again amid renewed military
\nescalations, with Tehran maintaining that corridor remains<\/a> under Iranian
\ncontrol.<\/p>\n
