Cops shot and killed a man who slashed his elderly father in the head after the maniac came at them with a large butcher knife inside the pair\u2019s blood-soaked Manhattan apartment Sunday afternoon, police said.<\/p>\n
Officers were called to the Ludlow Street home on the Lower East Side for an assault in progress at around 4 p.m. and arrived to find a blood trail leading them up the stairs \u2014 where they came face-to-face with the knife-wielding madman, the NYPD said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOfficers entered the building, saw the trail of blood and responded without hesitation, not knowing what was waiting for them as they went up the stairs,\u201d Assistant Chief Melissa Eger said at a press conference later in the evening.\u00a0<\/p>\n
As the cops moved up the blood-stained staircase, they were met by a man, identified as Wei Chan, 54, holding a large butcher knife as he advanced toward them, Eger said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The cops repeated multiple commands for Wei to drop his large blade, which he ignored, according to the NYPD chief.<\/p>\n
\u201cOfficers responded and discharged their firearms, striking the subject,\u201d Eger said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cops also discovered the suspect\u2019s father, Chung Chan, 75, with a laceration to his head on the second floor. Investigators determined he was knifed by his son.<\/p>\n
He was also rushed to Bellevue, where he is listed in stable condition and is expected to survive, according to authorities.<\/p>\n
A couple from Brazil in the city for their honeymoon were shocked by the bloody aftermath they witnessed as first responders attended to the father and son.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought it was a neighborhood fight,\u201d said Fabio Gutierrez, 43, who was having dinner with his new wife, Debora Martins, at a nearby restaurant when the violence went down.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe saw the guy getting on the gurney, they were giving him CPR,\u201d Martins, 38, added.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve never seen someone who seemed like they were dying,\u201d she told The Post.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are tourists here; we are not used to seeing that kind of violence. So it was really, really shocking to see the guy in that state.\u201d<\/p>\n

Martins said she saw another man covered in blood being taken down the street by cops.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was not good. He was all bloody,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The 75-year-old does not know that his son is dead, sources said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Chan does not have a prior criminal history with the NYPD, but has a documented mental health history, police said.<\/p>\n
No officers were wounded during the altercation, and the knife was recovered from the scene.<\/p>\n
Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he had been briefed on the officer-involved shooting and wished the wounded victim a \u201cfull and speedy recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n
