Washington would not seek to ext end its memorandum of
\nunderstanding (MoU) with Iran, US President Donald Trump said on Monday,
\narguing that Tehran remained unwilling to accept US terms for ending the
\nconflict.<\/p>\n
Trump stated that the Strait of Hormuz was \u201copen,\u201d with
\nmillions of barrels of oil passing through the waterway each week, and
\nexpressed a desire to declare it American territory.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Fox News earlier today, Trump threatened
\nmilitary action against Oman if it interfered with US operations in Hormuz. \u201cIf
\nOman gets in the way, we\u2019ll bomb the shit out of them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Iranian authorities detained an oil tanker in the strait
\nover alleged violations of maritime regulations. Citing shipping data, Iranian
\ntelevision said the vessel was stopped and is now near Qeshm Island, without
\nproviding further details.<\/p>\n
Shipping through the waterway has slowed<\/a> sharply, with only
\nfive cargo vessels crossing on August 16 and none recorded on August 15,
\naccording to ship-tracking firm Kpler.<\/p>\n
