\n\tWhen Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> announced that Rosie O\u2019Donnell<\/a> would be filling in as a week-long guest host of \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live<\/a>\u201d during his summer vacation, he teased it would be \u201ca special treat\u201d for Donald Trump<\/a>, who\u2019s harbored a 20-year-long vendetta against the comic for her mocking his bankruptcies on \u201cThe View\u201d back in 2006.<\/p>\n

\n\tO\u2019Donnell told Variety<\/a> she was \u201csurprised\u201d by the guest-hosting offer from Kimmel, given the pair\u2019s \u201cadversarial relationship\u201d and the fact that she\u2019d never even been asked on as a guest, but she was \u201cthankful\u201d and accepted nevertheless, owing in large part to her support of Kimmel during Trump\u2019s relentless campaign to get his late-night show canceled<\/a> over jokes he didn\u2019t like.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI support [Kimmel] in what he\u2019s doing with the First Amendment, and our ability as entertainers and citizens to speak out against our government that\u2019s enshrined in the Founding Fathers\u2019 writings about our government, so I think he\u2019s fantastic,\u201d O\u2019Donnell said. \u201cAnd I wish that Stephen Colbert had the same kind of support when it happened to him, because he shouldn\u2019t be gone either.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOn Monday night, O\u2019Donnell kicked off her \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live\u201d hosting duties by strutting out onstage in a bright pink suit adorned with flowers \u2014 to lengthy applause and chants of \u201cRO-SIE! RO-SIE!\u201d \u2014 before declaring, \u201cIf you thought the president hated \u2018Jimmy Kimmel Live!\u2019 when it was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel? Buckle up, people! Buckle up.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe former host of \u201cThe Rosie O\u2019Donnell Show\u201d and \u201cThe View\u201d continued taking shots at her thin-skinned nemesis during her monologue, joking, \u201cI\u2019ve been living in Ireland for the past two years because of \u2018Mango Mussolini.\u2019 I read that Project 2025 and said, \u2018Gotta get myself out of here!\u2019 and I decided to go to Ireland where people are driven to drink regardless of who\u2019s running their country.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAt one point during her monologue, she turned to the camera and addressed Trump, saying, \u201cHi! I know you\u2019re watching!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tO\u2019Donnell seemed cool and collected at the helm of a late-night show after decades away from TV hosting, regaling the audience with jokes about her time living in Ireland, including the disarming kindness of strangers (compared to New York City), their enthusiastic drinking and trying to ask out her (straight) pharmacist, and getting along famously with her guests, including \u201cTed Lasso\u201d star Hannah Waddingham, who announced herself as a huge Rosie fan (\u201cI can\u2019t believe I\u2019m talking to Rosie O\u2019Donnell\u2026 I\u2019m losing my mind!\u201d she exclaimed), and \u201cSchmigadoon!\u2019s\u201d Ana Gasteyer.<\/p>\n

\n\tBetween guests, O\u2019Donnell choked up while giving a moving tribute to the late Hayden Panettiere<\/a>, who tragically passed away on Sunday at the age of 36. Panettiere had been a favorite guest of \u201cThe Rosie O\u2019Donnell Show\u201d as a child actress.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m just heartbroken over the passing of Hayden Panettiere last night. She was on my show many times as a little girl, and I got to know her as a grown woman,\u201d offered O\u2019Donnell. \u201cAnd she was so brave talking about mental health before people were really ready to hear about it, and very sad. My love to her family and friends, and she will be missed. Godspeed, Hayden.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOverall, O\u2019Donnell seemed to acquit herself well as a late-night host.
