The Sonoma Community Center has announced plans to host a \u201cWoodsboro High Class of \u201896 Reunion\u201d weekend this October, marking the 30th anniversary of the filming of the horror classic \u201cScream,\u201d featuring film screenings, a VIP overnight experience and new community market.<\/p>\n

The two-day event, scheduled for Oct. 30 and 31, includes a Haunted Market designed to support local entrepreneurs and raise funds for the organization. The center is seeking vendors for the market, specifically targeting purveyors of Halloween, horror, and witchy-related items or services. Interested vendors must submit their applications by 5 p.m.\u00a0 Aug. 31.<\/p>\n

The celebration highlights the historical connection between the local landmark and the film industry. In 1996, director Wes Craven used the Sonoma Community Center \u2014 formerly the Sonoma Grammar School \u2014 to portray the fictitious Woodsboro High School. Since then, the center has maintained an annual tradition of screening the film. This year, organizers are expanding the scope for this milestone anniversary.<\/p>\n

Event organizer Cat Smith noted that the 30th anniversary has generated significant interest from film enthusiasts. According to Smith, the expansion of the event provides an opportunity to offer unique experiences that may not be repeated in future years.<\/p>\n

A central component of the weekend is the market which will be held in and around Room 110. The Haunted Market will open to the public on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Attendees of the Friday night film screening at 7 p.m. will also have early access to the market one hour before and after the movie.<\/p>\n

Unlike the center\u2019s traditional Winter Art Market, items for the Haunted Market do not need to be handmade. The call for vendors includes service providers such as tour operators and tarot readers.<\/p>\n

There is no fee to apply, though selected vendors are required to pay a $50 table fee. This fee serves as a direct donation to the Sonoma Community Center, which relies on the weekend\u2019s activities as a primary fundraiser. Vendors will retain all individual sales revenue without further donation requirements.<\/p>\n

The market also serves to showcase local artists, including Hannah Day, who is designing this year\u2019s limited-edition screen-printed tote bag. These collectible items are produced in Room 208, the same classroom utilized during the 1996 production. Day\u2019s design is scheduled for reveal on Oct. 30.<\/p>\n

The Center plans to notify selected participants during the first week of September. With film screenings expected to draw several hundred guests, officials anticipate a strong community turnout to support local businesses and the Center\u2019s ongoing mission.<\/p>\n
