Breece Hall can breathe easy.<\/p>\n

After leaving Monday\u2019s practice with a groin strain<\/a>, the Jets running back is expected to be sidelined just two to three weeks and be ready to return in time for Week 1 at Tennessee on Sept. 13, according to head coach Aaron Glenn.<\/p>\n

\u201cKnowing how important he is to what we\u2019re doing, it was really exciting [news],\u201d Glenn said following Tuesday\u2019s practice.<\/p>\n

Hall, who signed a three-year, $43.5 million contract during the offseason, has missed only two games the past three seasons since tearing his ACL as a rookie in 2022.<\/p>\n

Hall, 25, produced a career-best 1,065 rushing yards last season \u2014 plus 350 yards receiving \u2014 helping him land the eighth-highest average annual salary among running backs.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s definitely a relief,\u201d quarterback Geno Smith said. \u201cWe need Breece. He\u2019s a big part of our offense and our team. He\u2019s a leader on our team and on our offense. His presence is felt when we\u2019re out there. We appreciate him and we\u2019re hoping he comes back as soon as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Glenn is optimistic that rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq (hernia) and rookie cornerback D\u2019Angelo Ponds (calf) will be ready for the season opener.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201c[Sadiq] and Ponds are getting closer to returning,\u201d Glenn said. \u201cThe goal has always been getting those guys ready for Week 1. \u2026 We targeted Week 1 for [Ponds] from the very beginning. Hopefully he\u2019ll be in practice before that to make sure we get him as many reps as we can.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Ponds, a second-round pick out of Indiana, has been sidelined since July 29.<\/p>\n

Sadiq, the 16th overall pick, suffered a setback from hernia surgery earlier this month but has shown signs of progress, including catching passes with a helmet on from the training staff Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though he\u2019s getting the mental reps, he has to get those live reps,\u201d Glenn said. \u201cHe\u2019s a very intelligent man and we don\u2019t think he\u2019s gonna miss a beat when he gets on the field.\u201d<\/p>\n

Glenn put the team through one of the most intense and physical sessions of training camp, giving the first-teamers at least 40 snaps during the two-hour practice to build \u201ccompetitive stamina.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cToday was a dog day,\u201d Glenn said. \u201cIt was a ton of reps. It was meant to be that way. \u2026 I think our guys did a really good job of that. Listen, we still have a ways to go, but we are improving on a daily basis.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Breece Hall can breathe easy.
