Atletico Madrid<\/a> manager Diego Simeone<\/a> has confirmed that he will bench star striker and Arsenal target Julian Alvarez<\/a> for their LaLiga opener on Wednesday as he remains locked in a transfer dispute over his future<\/a>. Alvarez is pushing to join Barcelona this summer, with Atletico CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin saying the club would not even accept \u20ac200m for the former Manchester City forward. Arsenal are hoping to land a marquee attacking signing this summer ahead of their Premier League<\/a> title defence. <\/p>\n

Manchester City<\/a> face a price hike if they are to sign Enzo Fernandez<\/a> from Chelsea<\/a>. City are still interested in signing Fernandez despite missing Chelsea\u2019s Friday deadline for offers, but now face paying much more than the \u00a3120m the Blues were demanding last week. Chelsea want the midfielder\u2019s future to be resolved before their opening game of the season this weekend. City, meanwhile, are to sign 18-year-old midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi for \u00a385m after selling Ballon d\u2019Or winner Rodri to Barcelona<\/a> in a deal worth up to \u00a365m. <\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Manchester United<\/a> are set to reject an audacious approach from Galatasaray<\/a> for their captain Bruno Fernandes<\/a>. The Turkish club are determined to sign a star this summer and are lining up a comprehensive financial package that would have doubled the 31-year-old midfielder\u2019s salary, but United\u2019s stance is that Fernandes is not for sale<\/a>. Fernandes has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Old Trafford, but there is an option to extend for another year, and United are also set to open discussions on a new deal. <\/p>\n

Liverpool<\/a> have agreed terms with Paris Saint-Germain<\/a> forward Ibrahim Mbaye and also want to sign Bradely Barcola, according to reports in France. Both Mbaye, 18, and France international Barcola were left out of PSG\u2019s squad for the French Super Cup on Sunday. The European champions were set to demand \u00a3145m for Barcola, who is also wanted by Arsenal<\/a>, but Liverpool are prepared to play the long-game as they bid to negotiate a price. <\/p>\n

Wolves have made an enquiry for Brighton winger Amario Cozier-Duberry according to Sky Sports News. <\/p>\n

Martin Odegaard has described how last season\u2019s struggle with injury has made him stronger.<\/p>\n

Odegaard lifted the Premier League trophy in May \u2013 his first silverware since he joined Arsenal in 2021 \u2013 but it was often a difficult campaign on a personal note with knee, shoulder and muscle problems limiting his role.<\/p>\n

The Norway midfielder made just 16 league starts and missed the Carabao Cup final loss to Manchester City, a defeat Arsenal avenged on Sunday by winning the Community Shield season curtain-raiser 3-0.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast year was really a big struggle with a lot of difficult moments,\u201d Odegaard said after capping an outstanding individual display in Cardiff with his first club goal since December.\u201c<\/p>\n

It is the worst thing for a footballer to not be able to be on the pitch and I had quite a lot of weird injuries, and bad luck.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Barcelona to bid for Gyokeres?<\/p>\n

This rumour has a couple of moving parts. Firstly, Barcelona want to sign Atletico Madrid\u2019s Julian Alvarez but the Spanish side are insistent that he will not be sold.<\/p>\n

That being the case, Spanish outlet El Chiringuito <\/a>says that Barca have switched targets and are now looking at Arsenal\u2019s Viktor Gyokeres with a move for the forward \u2018imminent\u2019.<\/p>\n

That could well be the case but Arsenal will likely be just as stubborn as Atletico in wanting to keep hold of their striker.<\/p>\n

The Gunners will not let him go unless they have a replacement in place and one of their targets is Alvarez. Atletico could be more likely to sell him to a club from a different league but that move is still a tricky one to pull off.<\/p>\n

Arsenal also have other targets such as Bradley Barcola but he is a different profile of player to Gyokeres. Even if Barcelona make a move for the Swede, the likelihood he leaves Arsenal is small.<\/p>\n
