But that’s not what joint practices are really all about. The Eagles had plenty of good moments and got beneficial work against a team that went to the Super Bowl last season.

I was mostly keeping an eye on the Eagles’ defense on Wednesday, while Reuben Frank closely watched the offense. So we’ll have a couple notes from him in here too.

The Eagles and Patriots will practice again on Thursday before their preseason game at Gillette Stadium on Saturday night.

Let’s get to our observations from Day 13 of training camp:

1. As always, we’ll start with housekeeping:

• For the first time since he suffered a hamstring injury on Aug. 3, Makai Lemon was listed as a limited participant. Lemon didn’t participate in early drills and wasn’t even in uniform, but he was on the field running routes after practice in cleats.

It looks like Lemon is nearing a return after missing a ton of reps in training camp.

• The injury report to start Monday’s practice:

Not practicing: CB Jakorian Bennett (knee), TE Grant Calcaterra (back), CB Jonathan Jones (shoulder), OT John Ojukwu (pectoral), RB Dameon Pierce (hamstring), CB Shaun Wade (eye/shoulder), WR Johnny Wilson (knee), DT Byron Young (shoulder)

Limited: CB Tariq Castro-Fields (heel), OLB Keyshawn James-Newby (ankle), WR Makai Lemon (hamstring), WR DeVonta Smith (hamstring)

2. Depth chart notes:

• Andy Dalton was up first with the second-team offense at QB, but Tanner McKee got reps too. So did rookie Cole Payton.

• The Eagles’ top receivers in this practice in 11-on-11s (without DeVonta Smith and Makai Lemon) were Dontayvion Wicks, Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore. Darius Cooper got some time too.

• The top offensive line remained unchanged, but Fred Johnson did not participate in team drills during this practice. Second-year OT Myles Hinton replaced him at the left tackle spot with the twos.

First team: Jordan Mailata, Landon Dickerson, Cam Jurgens, Tyler Steen, Lane Johnson

Second team: Myles Hinton, Jake Majors, Willie Lampkin, Drew Kendall, Markel Bell

• The punt returner group: Britain Covey, Cooper DeJean, Elijah Moore, Quez Watkins

3. All eyes on Wednesday were on A.J. Brown in his first practice against his former team. With the Patriots, Brown wears No. 1 and I scribbled that number down quite a bit in my notes on this day.

The very first 1-on-1 rep was Brown against his former teammate Quinyon Mitchell on a deep ball down the left sideline from Drake Maye. Mitchell did a great job of getting a hand in to knock it away, even though Brown tried to say after practice that Mitchell held him.

The most anticipated practice rep of the summer (ever?) did not disappoint 😅

A.J. Brown lined up against Quinyon Mitchell for a 1-on-1 drill at Eagles-Patriots joint practice on Wednesday. pic.twitter.com/lDIIJePiq8

— NBC Sports Philadelphia (@NBCSPhilly) August 19, 2026

After that, Brown was targeted seven total times in 7-on-7s and 11-on-11s and had seven catches working against Mitchell and Riq Woolen and there were some highlight grabs among them.

Here’s a recap of all seven catches:

• Brown started his day by getting away from Woolen on a deep crosser during the first 11-on-11 period of practice for a huge gain.

• He was covered by Quinyon Mitchell in 7-on-7s and settled in the middle of the field for a catch.

• Brown caught a pass underneath in front of Zack Baun in 7-on-7s.

• The most excitement we saw from Brown came in 7-on-7s when he used his big frame to shield Mitchell from the ball on an in-breaking route. After this catch, Brown celebrated by spinning the ball. Despite that celebration, Brown said that he and Mitchell were not talking trash today; they have too much respect for one another.

• Back in 11-on-11s, Brown caught another in-breaker against Mitchell.

• One of the best plays of the day came against Riq Woolen near the right sideline. Drake Maye delivered a perfect pass and Brown was (maybe?) able to get both feet inbounds.

• Brown had yet another catch against Woolen as he worked back to the middle of the field. This was his seventh and final catch of the day.

4. The Patriots’ receivers — Brown, Romeo Doubs and DeMario Douglas — gave the Eagles all they could handle. But the Eagles’ pass rush was very effective in this practice. Jalyx Hunt had a standout performance against 2025 first-round pick Will Campbell. Hunt had at least one “sack” and was a menace.

But it wasn’t just Hunt. The Eagles got good reps from Nolan Smith, Moro Ojomo and more. They were disruptive in this practice.

5. All 180 players converged for the last period of this practice, when the Patriots earned their win on the day in a 2-minute drill. The New England first-team offense and second-team offense were both able to move the ball to set up field goals. Meanwhile, both of the Eagles’ units failed in the same scenario. The Eagles’ first-team offense stalled on their drive after a couple PBUs and the second-team’s drive ended when Tanner McKee was picked off by Kindle Vildor.

6. From Roob: The Eagles’ 1st-team offensive linemen dominated their 1-on-1s against the Patriots’ starting defensive linemen, and the drill began with former teammates Cam Jurgens and Milton Williams squaring off, with Jurgens neutralizing Williams and driving him backwards. Next up was Jordan Mailata, who won his rep. Rookie Markel Bell took on veteran Jessie Luketa and steamrolled him. Next was Drew Kendall, who continued the run of success by stuffing Patriots defensive tackle Joshua Farmer. Willie Lampkin took a rep against Isaiah Iton from Rutgers and dominated, continuing his outstanding summer. A Patriot finally got the better of an Eagle when Leonard Taylor got the best of Jake Majors. Myles Hinton won a rep vs. Jeremiah Pharms Jr., and rookie 2nd-round pick Gabe Jacas beat Cameron Williams. Great day for the starters. Not so great for the backups.

7. From Roob: There wasn’t a lot down the field from the starting offense, although Jalen Hurts did connect with Elijah Moore on a deep ball early in practice. Moore was stopped just short of the end zone. Moore has made a lot of plays over the past week and a half or so. Most of the other big plays the starting group hit were runs or passes to the backs.

Saquon Barkley looked fast and explosive running wide zone and the Patriots couldn’t match his speed. Barkley also had several big plays on receptions, first a screen behind blocks from Landon Dickerson and Dontayvion Wicks and then on a couple wheel routes. Barkley only has 70 catches in his two seasons with the Eagles, but when he gets the ball in space like he did Wednesday good things happen. Andy Dalton got the first reps with the second team, but it was Tanner McKee who had another very good day, notably hitting rookie tight end Eli Stowers down the field for what was probably Stowers’ biggest play of the summer. He got off to a slow start but is starting to show encouraging signs. Will Shipley also got some of the running back passing game action, turning a medium-range pass from Hurts into a 40-yard gain, also on a wheel route. Hurts threw three interceptions, but one came on a ball Wicks dropped and another on a miscommunication with slot receiver Britain Covey. Rookie Cole Payton threw his daily interception, this one picked off by safety John Saunders Jr.

8. Tempers flared a little bit later in practice during a special teams period when the Eagles had their FG block unit on the field. There was a mass of bodies pushing and shoving and it looked like eventually Jalyx Hunt was in the mix. Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel got in there to help break it up.

The other near-fight came between Willie Lampkin and rookie second-round pick Gabe Jacas. Those two had to be separated.

9. We probably don’t talk about Zack Baun enough but the former All-Pro linebacker had two great reps in coverage on Wednesday in the span of just a few plays. On the first, he covered Rhamondre Stevenson about 20 yards downfield and got his arms up to bat down the pass down the left sideline.

On the other, Baun was able to drop back into a throwing lane when Drake Maye clearly wanted to get the ball to an open A.J. Brown, who was crossing the field. Baun simply took away that option.

10. Some odds and ends:

• Andre’ Sam was able to pick off a pass on a tip drill during 11-on-11s with the second-team defense.

• Jalen Hurts threw a few interceptions in this practice, but they came in 7-on-7s and not in full-team drills. And one of them bounced off the hands of Dontayvion Wicks.

• Riq Woolen didn’t have a very good day but he got off to a fast start with a PBU against Romeo Doubs in 1-on-1s.

• Doubs had a good day, though, and even beat Quinyon Mitchell on a deep ball.

• DeMario Douglas gave Cooper DeJean some fits during 1-on-1s and in team periods. He’s a shorter and shiftier receiver.

• Hollywood Brown had a solid day. He has flashed a bit more over the last couple of practices after a slower start to his training camp.

• Zack Baun met Rhamondre Stevenson in the hole and delivered a hard thud.

• Arnold Ebiketie had a “sack” in a team period.

• Before the final 1st-team drive stalled, Hurts was able to hit Wicks on a slant that picked up a first down. Wicks has shown an ability to win on slants this camp.

• At one point, old friend Milton Williams jumped offsides and Lane Johnson was the player who moved and pointed at him to draw the flag.

Stupid Observation of the Day: After Elijah Moore caught a beautiful deep ball from Jalen Hurts, the veteran receiver got up and tossed the ball over the fence in celebration. I’m assuming someone had to go get that ball.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The Eagles and the Patriots practiced for 2 hours and 10 minutes on Wednesday in…

[63
166256,349,99
post-819539","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-nfl","tag-eagles-analysis","tag-nfl","tag-sports
["GET
