CLAY COUNTY, Fla. \u2013 A News4JAX viewer captured video of a dust devil spawning and spinning up dirt and dust in Green Cove Springs. <\/p>\n

The video was uploaded to SnapJAX<\/a> by user \u2018huffstetlertommy\u2019. <\/p>\n

The tower of whirling dust appeared to be at least 20 feet high.<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t the first time an impressive dust devil has been caught on camera in the area. <\/p>\n

A dust devil quickly formed during a baseball game<\/a> at the Fort Caroline Athletic Association baseball field in 2023.<\/p>\n

In a video shared with News4JAX, Bauer Zoya, 7, a catcher for the Ponte Vedra Sharks, is seen being engulfed by the short-lived whirlwind.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

What is a dust devil?<\/p>\n

According to the National Weather Service<\/a>, a dust devil is a small, rapidly rotating wind made visible by the dust, dirt or debris it picks up. Also called a whirlwind, it typically develops on clear, dry, hot afternoons due to intense surface heating.<\/p>\n
