Carlos Alcaraz confirmed Thursday that he will return from a wrist injury to play in the 2026 U.S. Open.<\/p>\n
Alcaraz made his return official in a joint Instagram post<\/a> with world football insider Fabrizio Romano. “Here we go! Carlos Alcaraz will return to the tour at the U.S. Open after spending four months sidelined with a right wrist injury,” Romano wrote.<\/p>\n The 23-year-old Alcaraz took to X to share the news as well on the heels of missing both the French Open and Wimbledon:<\/p>\n A seven-time Grand Slam singles champion, Alcaraz last played in the Barcelona Open back in April.<\/p>\n Alcaraz withdrew from the tournament due to a wrist injury after winning his first-round matchup, and that led to a prolonged absence that saw him miss both Roland-Garros in May and June, and Wimbledon in June and July.<\/p>\n The only Grand Slam tournament Alcaraz has played thus far in 2026 is the Australian Open. The Spaniard was victorious, allowing him to complete the career Grand Slam by winning all four major tournaments.<\/p>\n With Alcaraz out of the fold, Alexander Zverev won his first career Grand Slam at the French Open, while world No. 1 Jannik Sinner triumphed at Wimbledon.<\/p>\n Despite having not played a tournament in four months, Alcaraz is still No. 2 in the ATP rankings<\/a> behind only Sinner, putting him in position to be among the top seeds at the U.S. Open.<\/p>\n In five career appearances in the U.S. Open singles tournament, Alcaraz has made it to at least the quarterfinals on four occasions.<\/p>\n He won the 2022 U.S. Open, marking the first Grand Slam singles title of his career, and Alcaraz is also the reigning U.S. Open champ, beating Sinner in last year’s final.<\/p>\n Scheduled to start on Aug. 30, Alcaraz doesn’t have much time to get back in rhythm ahead of the U.S. Open, but he promises to be among the top contenders nonetheless.<\/p>\n
