The Rangers checked another item off their summer to-do list.<\/p>\n

GM Chris Drury announced Friday the team re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Vincent Iorio to a one-year deal.<\/p>\n

Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old joined the team last season after being claimed off waivers from San Jose on Jan. 31. Iorio skated in six games with the Blueshirts without registering a point.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just grateful,\u201d he said of joining the Rangers<\/a>. \u201cMy parents, growing up, they really preached the 1 percent better each day and being happy with where you\u2019re at in life. For me, playing this game is such a privilege. Playing in this league is such a privilege. Especially a team like New York.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was obviously really excited. This is such a storied franchise.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over three NHL seasons, the 2021 second-round pick of the Capitals has four assists in 36 career games. He\u2019s also posted 11 goals and 52 assists over 196 AHL games with the San Jose Barracuda and Hershey Bears, winning back-to-back Calder Cups with the latter in 2023-24.<\/p>\n

The Rangers are keeping more than a defenseman in the fold \u2014 the 6-foot-4 blueliner put his hockey skills to use as a stuntman for the Prime Video series \u201cOff Campus,\u201d filling in on-ice for the character of Garrett Graham.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause I don\u2019t have a face for TV, unfortunately,\u201d the 23-year-old told The Post\u2019s Mollie Walker in March.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, the Rangers inked fellow defenseman Scott Morrow to a one-year, two-way deal worth $850,000<\/a> at the NHL level.<\/p>\n

Both Morrow and Iorio have their work cut out for them after the team acquired blueliners Sean Durzi and Marcus Petterson<\/a> in offseason trades.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Adam Fox, Durzi and Braden Schneider appear to have the right side of the defensive pairs sewn up, though Iorio, Morrow and Urho Vaakanainen will be among those competing for a backup role.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Rangers checked another item off their summer to-do list.
