Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 are launching next month<\/a>, and rumors indicate they\u2019ll pack a big upgrade\u2014a new, more powerful chip\u2014that will arrive at just the right time.<\/p>\n New Apple Watch models to have more powerful S-class chip just in time for Siri AI<\/p>\n Most Apple products get more powerful chips all the time\u2014but Apple Watch is the exception.<\/p>\n New Apple Watch models debut annually, but more often than not, \u2018new\u2019 S-class chips don\u2019t actually pack an improved CPU. True performance upgrades only happen every few years.<\/p>\n Last year was even worse: Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Series 11 had the exact same S10 chip as their predecessors.<\/p>\n But rumors indicate<\/a> we\u2019re getting a truly meaningful chip upgrade this year.<\/p>\n Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 will debut a brand new chip, probably named S11 or S12.<\/p>\n Mark Gurman recently wrote<\/a> that this year\u2019s new models will get a \u201clong-awaited bump in chips and speed.\u201d The last time an Apple Watch chip brought performance gains was the S9 in 2023. <\/p>\n But watchOS 27 launches next month<\/a>, and its tentpole addition is Siri AI\u2014a feature that could truly benefit from a more powerful chip.<\/p>\n Siri AI on Apple Watch isn\u2019t a lesser version of the assistant. It\u2019s the same new and improved Siri found on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and more. That\u2019s a big part of why watchOS 27 cuts off support<\/a> for many older Watch models.<\/p>\n Throughout the watchOS 27 beta, Siri has been a bit less responsive than I\u2019d hope. And I suspect that\u2019s in part due to the older chip, which far predates any AI version of Siri.<\/p>\n Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 will have the first Watch chip built for the AI era.
