Now is your chance to buy a coveted California residence designed by the legendary architect Frank Gehry<\/a> \u2014 less than a year after his death.<\/p>\n

A Santa Monica<\/a> artist\u2019s loft in a six-unit building that the Pritzker Prize-winning architect designed\u00a0in collaboration with his friend, the artist Charles Adnoldi, has listed for $2.39 million, Gimme Shelter has learned.<\/p>\n

The sleek, minimalist triplex \u2014 more of a townhouse than a condo \u2014 is located at 1643 12th St., delivering views of the ocean.<\/p>\n

At 2,565 square feet, the three-bedroom, two-bath space is currently set up as an art gallery and a private residence. <\/p>\n

But it can be configured in whichever way works best for the next owner, listing broker Brandon Assanti of the Agency told Gimme Shelter.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Built in 1992, the units were originally designed as artist studios for Gehry, Adnoldi and their friends \u2014 in a minimalist manner with high ceilings and large open wall spaces for art displays.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOver time, people bought and transitioned them into live-work spaces,\u201d Assanti said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBack in the day, people painted on the walls directly as huge canvasses. It has a very cool vibe inside, and out, which is especially unique in Santa Monica,\u201d Assanti said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The sellers purchased the loft for $1.33 million back in 2014. Sales in the building are so rare, Assanti said, that there has only been one deal in the building since then \u2014 in 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf they had their choice, they would never leave. But they recently relocated to New York for work,\u201d Assanti said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The dwelling comes with industrial-scale windows and oversized skylights that showcase the views.<\/p>\n

Inside, it features large\u00a0open living spaces and 17-foot ceilings on the main floor \u2014 plus a mezzanine level, a second floor with 12-foot ceilings and a third floor with 15-foot ceilings.<\/p>\n

A middle level comes with an open living room, a dining area and a custom chef\u2019s kitchen with millwork, concrete countertops and stainless steel appliances\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The main bedroom takes up the entire upper floor, and features panoramic Pacific vistas. There\u2019s also a large walk-in closet and a spa-like bath with marble slabs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The building is also gated and comes with two spaces in its underground parking garage, as well as storage.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gehry-designed residences are in high demand. Actor Patrick Dempsey<\/a> once owned the \u201cTin House\u201d in Malibu \u2014 a corrugated metal Gehry design from the 1960s. He bought it for $7 million in 2009 and sold in 2015 for $15 million \u2014 $500,000 over its asking price, at 29715 Cuthbert Road.\u00a0<\/p>\n
