If it weren\u2019t for bad luck, Tovani Mizell<\/a> would have no luck at all. Kentucky\u2019s reserve running back just can\u2019t seem to shake the injury bug. <\/p>\n

Head coach Will Stein<\/a> revealed<\/a> on Saturday that Mizell suffered another season-ending injury. He underwent surgery earlier this week. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s really disappointing for him more than anything. The guy\u2019s battled a lot of injuries here, and honestly, just had a string of bad luck. It isn\u2019t for a lack of want-to or working through, you know; he just had some really unfortunate injuries,\u201d said the Kentucky head coach. \u201cWe\u2019re praying for him, and they\u2019re for him. So it really sucks for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mizell was once a four-star talent committed to play football at Georgia. Ahead of his senior year of high school, he suffered a knee injury. Setbacks sidelined him during his freshman season at Kentucky. He was not healthy last summer either, but was able to recover in time to appear in three games for the Wildcats. Finally healthy in the preseason, Mizell caught the coaches\u2019 attention during the early days of fall camp. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s light on his feet, very light. He looked like a horse coming out there walking around the paddock,\u201d said running backs coach Kolby Smith. <\/p>\n

Offensive coordinator Joe Sloan added, \u201cHe\u2019s a thick, good-looking cat. He\u2019s thick. He can move laterally. I think he\u2019s got good twitch. He just hasn\u2019t been healthy. So, that\u2019s the thing. He hasn\u2019t gotten to play that much football the last couple years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, that trend is continuing for Mizell. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Kentucky has reportedly gauged interest<\/a> in former UCLA and SMU running back TJ Harden<\/a>, who received an injunction last week to play a fifth year of college football. The Wildcats also added a pair of JUCO running backs, Ahmir Smith<\/a> and Jordan Colbert<\/a>, in July to add more depth to the running back room. <\/p>\n

Other Kentucky Injury News<\/p>\n

Mizell isn\u2019t the only Wildcat with an extensive injury history. There were a handful of players who did not participate in practice when Fall Camp kicked off. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

RB CJ Baxter<\/a>: Received \u201creal reps\u201d with the team in practice.
RB Jovantae Barnes<\/a>: \u201cStill limited.\u201d
OG Tegra Tshabola<\/a>: Participated in today\u2019s scrimmage.
WR Nic Anderson<\/a>: Ran routes this week. \u201cHe was out there pre-scrimmage, running full speed.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we have our full strength, we look like a real SEC team. We\u2019re really big up front. We got big receivers, big tight ends, and backs,\u201d said the Kentucky head coach. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just about managing those guys\u2019 workload, and I think we\u2019ve done a really good job of the staff being on the same page, pushing them to where we need to get them to be, playing week one.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"If it weren\u2019t for bad luck, Tovani Mizell would have no luck at all.
