Crystal Hefner<\/a> is reflecting on her complicated relationship with the late Playboy founder Hugh Hefner<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The former Playboy Playmate, who was married to Hefner at the time of his death, shared details about her life behind the gates of the Playboy Mansion during an appearance on the\u00a0\u201cNo One Asked Her\u201d<\/a>\u00a0podcast with Billy Ray Cyrus\u2019 ex-wife, Firerose.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think I was absolutely brainwashed, but there was nothing out there that validated me,\u201d Crystal said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I just thought I was the crazy one because all of the media put Hef on such a pedestal that I\u2019m like, \u2018OK, if they all see him as this larger-than-life amazing human, there must be something wrong with me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI would watch interviews of his from the past and there was this one where he was arguing with feminists and a woman said, \u2018Uh, let\u2019s see you parade out here with a bunny tail on and stuff.\u2019 And then she said, \u2018Calling women animals,\u2019 \u2026 and he said, \u2018Women are animals; what else would they be?’\u201d<\/p>\n

She noted, \u201cAt that time, I was like siding with him and \u2026 like, I\u2019m going against myself while he keeps me in this dilapidated, gross home and I can\u2019t see my family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Crystal, 40, recalled being under the watch of 70 employees during her time at the\u00a0Playboy Mansion<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember when I left, I mean, it took him dying for me to leave, but when I finally left, I didn\u2019t even know how to turn the headlights on in my car because I was always home before dark.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cMovie night was at six, and that\u2019s an early time and I had to be there \u2026 so it was kind of disguised \u2014 the coercive control, like, \u2018Oh, that\u2019s the time for movie night.\u2019 OK, that\u2019s the time for my curfew and my control.\u201d<\/p>\n

Crystal began dating Hefner when she was 21 years old. <\/p>\n

The couple got engaged in 2010<\/a> when she was 24 and the Playboy founder was 84.<\/p>\n

They called off their wedding just days before the ceremony in 2011 but later reconciled. <\/p>\n

Crystal and Hefner married in 2012 and remained together until\u00a0his death in 2017<\/a>. <\/p>\n

He was 91.<\/p>\n

She told Firerose that she struggled to leave the house after he died.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was so confused,\u201d she said. \u201cIn the media, he was old for so long, so you just, you see him as kind of immortal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Crystal added, \u201cI couldn\u2019t stay in the bedroom we stayed in, but I stayed in one bedroom of the house for like six weeks. I didn\u2019t leave.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shortly after Hefner\u2019s death, Crystal\u00a0told Fox News Digital\u00a0she was thankful for her marriage to the late business mogul.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHe taught me love. He taught me kindness. He gave me life. He really did,\u201d she explained. <\/p>\n

Crystal, 40, was married to Hefner when he died in 2017 at the age of 91. WireImage<\/p>\n

\u201cHe opened my mind, my world, to all of these opportunities and experiences I would have never\u00a0in my lifetime been able to have.\u201d<\/p>\n

In her 2024 memoir<\/a>, \u201cOnly Say Good Things: Surviving Playboy and Finding Myself,\u201d Crystal detailed more about her life post Playboy. Playboy didn\u2019t respond to Fox News Digital\u2019s request for comment about Crystal\u2019s book at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think after leaving the [Playboy] mansion and being away for five years, I was in a lot of therapy,\u201d Crystal told\u00a0Fox News Digital.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI realized that the mansion affected me more than I thought. I just wanted to tell the truth about my time there and hopefully help others.\u201d<\/p>\n

She claimed their nearly five-year union was \u201cemotionally abusive,\u201d and wrote that Hefner \u201ccould be charming\u201d but also \u201ccruel.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former Playmate detailed her life at the Playboy Mansion and her relationship with Playboy Founder in her 2024 memoir, \u201cOnly Say Good Things: Surviving Playboy and Finding Myself.\u201d FilmMagic<\/p>\n

\u201cOver a little bit of time, I gained a bit of weight, and he told me that I needed to tone up,\u201d Crystal said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen he started telling me what color nails I could have and couldn\u2019t have. [I had to] wear more colorful shirts, wear \u2018the flag,\u2019 which means the Playboy logo on my body, somewhere on my shirt. I had to dye my roots, bleach my roots. If that was growing out, he would tap it and tell me to go fix it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Looking back at their marriage, she said that her late husband, a leader in America\u2019s sexual revolution, was a complicated figure.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I was told what to wear, what to do and to lose weight, I thought, \u2018I\u2019m going to be better. I can do better,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t know why my mind went there at that time instead of \u2018How dare you treat me this way?\u2019 But I\u2019m not sure what compelled me to protect him.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe, in a way, I felt sorry for him. Maybe, in a way, it was Stockholm syndrome, which I truly believe happened there because it was such a bubble.
