NEW YORK \u2014 The possibility that Giancarlo Stanton will not play another game for the New York Yankees has become more real.<\/p>\n
Yankees manager Aaron Boone announced on Saturday morning that Stanton sustained a moderate left calf strain while rehabbing from two calf strains in his right leg.<\/p>\n
Boone said Stanton sustained the injury while running the bases earlier in the week. They have not yet ruled him out for the season, but it doesn\u2019t seem likely that there will be enough time for the slugger to return.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re at a point in the calendar where it gets challenging,\u201d Boone admitted. \u201cYou all know how bad he wants to be on that field and contributing to a championship. Obviously, that\u2019s disappointing. Hopefully we just continue working to get him right and healthy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stanton has been out since April 24, which is when he initially injured his right calf while jogging to second base on a walk. He then sustained an additional calf strain in the same leg, but in a different spot, while rehabbing from the initial strain.<\/p>\n
Injuries have derailed Stanton\u2019s career with the Yankees. He has been on the injured list every season since 2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s in the trenches as much as he can be,\u201d Boone said. \u201cI admire him so much (for) who he is and the way he goes about things. The same rings true for everyone in that room. They look up to him. They respect him. When he speaks, you listen. It means a lot to him to be able to do this. He understands who he is and what he means when he\u2019s in there. He has the utmost respect and admiration of everyone in that room.\u201d<\/p>\n
When everyone is healthy, the Yankees already have a roster crunch with players who should be getting designated-hitter at-bats, including Ben Rice and Aaron Judge. The Yankees\u2019 acquisition of Luis Garcia Jr. at the deadline has proven shrewd, since it allows Rice to continue getting at-bats as the Yankees\u2019 DH.<\/p>\n
The Yankees owe Stanton $15 million in 2027.<\/p>\n
