Actress Shelley Fabares, known for her television roles as Francine Webster on the 1975 sitcom \u201cOne Day at a Time<\/a>,\u201d Mary Stone on \u201cThe Donna Reed Show,\u201d and her Billboard Hot 100 song \u201cJohnny Angel<\/a>,\u201d died Sunday in Los Angeles surrounded by her loved ones. She was 82.<\/p>\n

In a statement to The Times, a family friend shared the news of the star\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo her family and friends, Shelley was a source of love, strength, laughter, and comfort\u2026 whose warmth, generosity, humor, and grace made an enduring difference in the lives of everyone who knew her,\u201d the statement read. \u201cShe had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcomed, valued, and cared for.\u201d<\/p>\n

The family did not disclose the cause of death. <\/p>\n

Fabares was born in Santa Monica in 1944. She began her acting career at the age of 3 and became a household name<\/a> playing teenager Mary Stone on \u201cThe Donna Reed Show\u201d from 1958 to 1963. Fabares frequently praised her on-screen mother Donna Reed<\/a>, calling her a \u201csecond mother.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fabares went on to star alongside Elvis Presley in three films: \u201cGirl Happy,\u201d \u201cSpinout\u201d and \u201cClambake.\u201d <\/p>\n

By the 1970s<\/a>, Fabares transitioned back to television, starring in the 1971 TV drama \u201cBrian\u2019s Song\u201d and appearing in \u201cThe Little People\u201d and \u201cThe Practice.\u201d She ended the decade on Norman Lear\u2019s \u201cOne Day at a Time,\u201d starring as Francine Webster opposite Bonnie Franklin.<\/p>\n

Fabares later starred as Christine Armstrong on the ABC sitcom \u201cCoach,\u201d earning two Primetime Emmy nominations during the show\u2019s nine-season run.<\/p>\n

After her 1980 divorce from music producer Lou Adler, Fabares remarried \u201cMASH\u201d actor Mike Farrell in 1984. The pair eventually sold their Sherman Oaks honeymoon home<\/a> they bought in 1985. They moved to Studio City to better accommodate Fabares\u2019 mother, who was suffering from Alzheimer\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n

Fabares spent her final years<\/a> taking care of her mother and advocating for more funding for research into the crippling disease.<\/p>\n
