A major trade offer was officially put on the table by the Dallas Stars in the past, and we now have the exact details.

Let’s revisit the 2025 trade deadline saga.

Mikko Rantanen, then with the Colorado Avalanche, landed with the Carolina Hurricanes with no intention of staying there.

Carolina quickly pivoted to avoid losing him for nothing.

GM Eric Tulsky sent him to the Stars, ultimately acquiring Logan Stankoven and draft picks.

But one detail had escaped us.

That information is massive considering how much trouble the Stars had signing Jason Robertson this summer. They eventually re-signed him for one year at $12 million.

The Hurricanes chose Logan Stankoven over Jason Robertson – and it ended with a Stanley Cup

The offer was literally put on the table.

Why choose Stankoven over a player of Robertson’s caliber?

Most likely because of the package that came with him: two conditional first-round picks and two third-round picks.

Stankoven shined in the playoffs, helping the Hurricanes win the Stanley Cup.

In the end, it’s tough to say which team came out ahead.

But one thing is certain: neither Dallas nor Carolina appears to regret its decision.

Another interesting question: if the Hurricanes had chosen Jason Robertson, would they have won the 2026 Stanley Cup?
