ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A multi-agency response is underway in the Cook Inlet after a pilot spotted an oil spill Monday afternoon. <\/p>\n
The pilot, who asked to remain anonymous, reported the sighting to the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) at approximately 2 p.m. while flying over the inlet. He told state environmental officials that he flies the route daily and that the spill was not visible less than 24 hours prior.<\/p>\n
He told Alaska\u2019s News Source that he estimates the spill to be about five miles long. <\/p>\n
The spill is located approximately five miles south of Tyonek, according to the pilot\u2019s report.<\/p>\n
ADEC On-Scene Coordinator Anna Carey said multiple agencies have dispatched response teams to the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have multiple agencies responding, including the U.S. Coast Guard, Alaska Response Corp., and the State Department of Fish and Game,\u201d Carey said.<\/p>\n
ADEC officials said it remains unclear which rig or vessel originated the spill, but Hilcorp is currently sending resources to inspect its assets in the vicinity.<\/p>\n
