The movie was a box office hit, which helped the single become the band\u2019s first No. 1 on the all-genre chart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Robert Zemeckis, Bob Gale, and Steven Spielberg approached Huey Lewis about writing a song for Back to the Future. They told him that the film\u2019s protagonist, Marty McFly, would have been a huge Huey Lewis and the News fan. While he was flattered by the offer, he wasn\u2019t sure how to write a song for a movie. Moreover, he didn\u2019t want to write a song called \u201cBack to the Future.\u201d They assured him that he didn\u2019t need to do that. He could write whatever he wanted. Instead, it was a little more personal. \u201cIt was my young family,\u201d Lewis told <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/movies\/huey-lewis-on-the-back-to-the-future-anthem-the-power-of-love\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">People<\/a> about the inspiration for the song. \u201cIt was 1985, and I was married in \u201983 and had two kids, one born in \u201984 and one in \u201985. That was that that was about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Huey Lewis and the News Wrote Two Songs for the Movie<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Huey Lewis and the News also provided the song \u201cBack in Time,\u201d which plays over the end credits and draws from the film\u2019s plot. \u201cSean Hayes and I put together \u2018Back in Time\u2019\u2013and it turned out that it\u2019s actually quite easy to write for film,\u201d Lewis said. \u201cIn a way, it\u2019s easier, in that you don\u2019t have to invest yourself in it. So, that was a lot of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Studio executives wanted to use \u201cBack in Time\u201d as the single from the soundtrack. Logically, it makes more sense than \u201cThe Power of Love.\u201d However, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.songfacts.com\/facts\/huey-lewis-the-news\/the-power-of-love\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Songfacts<\/a>, music supervisor Bone Howe knew a hit when he heard one.
