(Loren Holmes \/ ADN) <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sans-serif\">Authorities are investigating the cause of an oily sheen reported by a pilot in Cook Inlet. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sans-serif\">A pilot reported the sheen Monday afternoon near an offshore oil and gas platform on the west side of the Inlet, according to Anna Carey, a spill prevention and response manager with the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sans-serif\">Numerous reports described the sheen as about 5 miles long. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sans-serif\">Hilcorp, which <a href=\"https:\/\/alaskabeacon.com\/2025\/06\/14\/offshore-in-cook-inlet-a-silent-economy-hunts-for-gas-to-keep-alaska-running\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/alaskabeacon.com\/2025\/06\/14\/offshore-in-cook-inlet-a-silent-economy-hunts-for-gas-to-keep-alaska-running\/\">operates 15 active and inactive platforms<\/a> in the Inlet, \u201ccontinues to investigate their assets in the area,\u201d Carey said in an email. An Alaska Response Corp. vessel was en route to the area late Monday with response equipment and to investigate any potential sources of the sheen, she said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sans-serif\">A request for comment was left with Hilcorp representatives early Tuesday morning. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sans-serif\">A source had not been identified as of Monday night. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sans-serif\">This is a developing story.
