Barry Manilow is finished singing until the fall.<\/p>\n
The \u201cWeekend in New England\u201d hitmaker is undergoing vocal rest through Oct. 8, when he is due to return to the Westgate.<\/p>\n
Manilow has called off his next nine performances at International Theater. His three shows this weekend, Sept. 17-19 and Sept. 24-26 are being rescheduled.<\/p>\n
In a statement to fans Tuesday afternoon, Manilow said:<\/p>\n
\u201dI want you to be the first to know that we\u2019re going to take a quick break. We just finished a fantastic summer tour, 29 shows in 68 days. The shows were fantastic. The audiences were fantastic. And I sounded fantastic. But it seems that we were pushing a little too hard. Now we all need to sit down and shut up. So, we\u2019re going to take a break until we return to the Westgate Las Vegas on October 8th. When I\u2019ll be singing like a bird. I hope to see you then.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 83-year-old entertainment legend cut short Thursday\u2019s show and canceled Friday and <\/a>Saturday<\/a>, announcing, \u201cDue to technical and vocal problems, we\u2019re unable to put on our show.\u201d<\/p>\n In December, Manilow underwent a surgery to remove half of his left lung after doctors detected a cancerous spot. <\/a> He returned to the stage in <\/a>April<\/a>, for dates in the U.K., and was back at Westgate on July 9.<\/a><\/p>\n John Katsilometes\u2019 column runs daily in the A section.
