Jake Reiner, son of Rob and Michelle Reiner<\/a>, gave an interview for the first time since his parents\u2019 deaths. He described how his life has changed since his parents were stabbed and his brother, Nick, was accused of the crime. \u201cNobody really understands what it\u2019s like to go through something like that until you\u2019re living it,\u201d Jake told ABC 7<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s been eight months. It feels like eight years at the same time. And it also feels like eight minutes because every moment that I wake up, I\u2019m reminded of my reality.\u201d He described how, in one night, he lost over half his family. \u201c[Nick\u2019s] in jail,\u201d Jake said. \u201cIt\u2019s like, I physically lost my parents, and then Nick was arrested. Now it\u2019s just me and [his sister] Romy, and we have to navigate this by ourselves essentially.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rob and Michelle Reiner were killed on December 14, 2025<\/a>, and Nick is charged with two counts of murder. When he found out about his parents\u2019 deaths, Jake was at a celebration of life for a high-school friend. \u201cRomy called me, and I screened it because I thought at the time, I\u2019m in the middle of something, you know, I\u2019ll call her back,\u201d he described. \u201cAnd then she called immediately again, and I knew at that point that something was wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n

When discussing his current mental state, Jake was forthcoming about how difficult this time period has been. \u201cFor me, it manifests into anger,\u201d he said. \u201cIt manifests into rage, into how unfair this was, how I didn\u2019t get a say in what happened. I didn\u2019t get to stop it from happening. I had no choice in the matter. I just have to accept the reality of it. And to me, that is just one of the most infuriating parts of all of this.\u201d Nick, who has entered a not-guilty plea, will appear next in court on September 15 for a pretrial hearing.<\/p>\n
