Those unique blends of various genres, all with a touch of psychedelia, stood out from the more redundant psychedelic rock hits of the time. Let\u2019s look at just a few such songs that complemented the \u201ctrippy\u201d sound of the time with other genre elements, shall we?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhite Rabbit\u201d by Jefferson Airplane from \u2018Surrealistic Pillow\u2019 (1967)<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tPlay video<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787880611_125_hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Play\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Psychedelic rock was obviously all the rage in 1967 through the end of the decade. But nobody expected Jefferson Airplane to toss some Spanish-inspired flamenco melodies and rhythms into the mix. As it shows, both of those genres go gloriously together. And \u201cWhite Rabbit\u201d quickly became an anthem for the times, remaining one of the group\u2019s most legendary songs and one of the most instantly recognizable songs of the 60s. \u201cWhite Rabbit\u201d peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and topped the Canadian charts in 1967.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tVideos by American Songwriter\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTime Has Come Today\u201d by The Chambers Brothers from \u2018The Time Has Come\u2019 (1967)<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tPlay video<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787880611_168_hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Play\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Soul, gospel, and acid rock all wrapped up in one song? Sign me up! \u201cTime Has Come Today\u201d by The Chambers Brothers was a smash hit back in 1967. Few other outfits from the era managed to blend together as many genre elements into one tune as they did. Music journalist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/book\/show\/854656\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Chuck Eddy<\/a> noted that the song had elements of dub music before the genre existed and that it was \u201cprobably the most outlandish ball of rock-mucus ever expectorated.\u201d I\u2019m inclined to agree. This iconic track was a No. 11 hit on the Hot 100 and did similarly well in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA Day In The Life\u201d by The Beatles from \u2018Sgt. Pepper\u2019s Lonely Hearts Club Band\u2019 (1967)<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tPlay video<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787880612_910_hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Play\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several <a href=\"https:\/\/americansongwriter.com\/tag\/the-beatles\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Beatles<\/a> songs could have made it to our list of 1967 genre mashup songs. I went with \u201cA Day In The Life\u201d because it stood out to me in the Fab Four\u2019s discography immediately. This track from Sgt. Pepper\u2019s Lonely Hearts Club Band took the classic rock sound of its time and injected both avant-garde orchestral compositions and classical music influences into it.
